The Art and Science of Images
Anaglyphs
Anaglyphs are 3-D images created using a stereo pair of images, one for each eye, to create a very realistic illusion of three dimensions. The two images are combined into one by coloring one image blue and the other red. When viewing the image you wear glasses with one red and one blue lens. The eye with the red lens sees only the blue image and the eye with the blue lens sees only the red image. Anaglyphs work best for black and white images, and work very nicely when viewed on a computer screen. I would like to create anaglyph 3-D black and white figure studies. I believe this combination of a traditional art form with the enhancement of 3-D viewing has great potential.
The above is an anaglyph image I took when I first built my two-camera digital 3-D shooting system. It's not exactly art, but if you happen to have a pair of goofy cardboard anaglyph glasses you can see the 3-D effect.
