Barely
Breeding: A Hysterical Pregnancy in Three Acts
"no ordinary muffin in the oven" - LA Magazine "Executed with considerable
style and emotional feeling…views from the humorous to the sensual
and from the spiritual to the absurd are boldly and inventively juxtaposed."
BARELY BREEDING: A HYSTERICAL PREGNANCY IN THREE ACTS, is a visceral, dream-like theatre work that probes the terror of neglect, sensuality askew and the attraction and revulsion to pregnancy. The darkly comic performance engages the five senses as it enters the bizarre worlds of a painterly triptych of characters. From a pregnant, circus fat-lady to a Las Vegas Virgin Mary flanked by diaper clad henchmen and the Pope, and an insomniac night nurse a woman terrorized by the implications of child-bearing. The piece weaves actual newsclips of male false pregnancy cases, poetic text, evocative smells and the physiological effects of sound and psychologically potent imagery to investigate the concepts of barrenness and abundance.
