1967 - 68 England Tour of New Zealand
1969 England v New Zealand
This test series was the first in Britian after a period of fifteen years or so. The first match at Swindon the trio of Mauger, Briggs and Moore contributed three more points than the whole of the England side put together. In the final match of the series, at Hackney, with Ronnie Moore out injured, the position was reversed. And the English top three of Nigel Boocock, Ray Wilson and Terry Betts outscored the Rickety Islanders on their own. But New Zealand fully deserved their victory in the series-clinching secondmatch at Newcastle. Without Moore for half of the match, and with Briggs and Mauger missing rides through exclusion, the rest of the New Zealand team took up the slack and double figure contributions from Bob Andrews and Dave Gifford saw New Zealand safely home.
