Salmon Luncheon at Chadwick's, Washington, DC
I happened upon Chadwick's at the corner of Wisconsin and Jenifer Street NW while on a shopping excursion. Situated on the corner, the patio gives one a spectacular people watching view of persons strolling by at the upscale shops of upper Wisconsin Avenue. The atmosphere of the patio is pleasant for quiet conversation, being somewhat
secluded by plants and trees. One can either watch the passersby or dine in quiet conversation.
The wait staff at Chadwick's were prompt and most congenial. On my second visit they remembered be and shepherded me to a corner table on the patio. The luncheon menu
offers dining fare for almost any taste from seafood to salads to a few down home
choices for heartier eaters. A favorite on the menu is the blackened salmon on baby greens with roasted red peppers. While at first glance, this dish may appear very southwesty, the roasted peppers and blackened salmon were complimented by a mild dill sauce that balanced the flavors very well; seeming a mix of southwest and french cuisine.
The dining experience was started with some baguette slices and butter and a fresh glass of ice tea. The beverage menu also includes some reasonably priced wines and imported beers. The wait staff were present but not obvious, taking care to make sure
that every need was met.
The salmon was presented on a bed of baby greens that were selected with
the utmost of care. No parts of the greens were bitter and all were very tender. The
salmon was lightly blackened, just a hint of southwestern style and just enough to
sear in the juices of the salmon. Inside the salmon was tender and moist and
not overdone at all. The peppers were mild and roasted to bring together the
flavors of the dill and lemon juice. The dill sauce was not overpowering and complimented
the dish nicely. The meal was ended by a dish of ice cream, a simple and yet satisfying way to complete the meal. For more heartier chocolate loves, the mud pie is a favorite on the menu.
