Recipes

I have been doing my own recipes for years and finally decided to provide some of them here before the publication of my "Narrative Cookbook" collection of recipes, resturant reviews, and narrative of memorable food fests at the homes of friends.

My next project under the food genre is to provide a more symbolic narrative to women and food, e.g. the politics of food, would be a good topic.

The Politics of Food
(Excerpt)
Food shapes our very existance by defining ourselves by what we consume and make for ourselves and others. Food, then, takes on a dimension for women that no other substance creates or embodies. In this way, some of us are bound by what we cook and eat and some of us find freedom in going beyond the everyday social and emotional politics of food. The gravitation is to provide the push from food as a love replacement to food as an enjoyable experience to be cherished. To make, serve, and eat food is a festive occasion. It is to be cherished and experienced with all the senses and with all those friends around us that we love and cherish. It is a celebration of nourishment.

Leek and Potato Soup-originally published in the Don't Assume I Can't Cook Cookbook, N.O.W., 1998.

Alfredo Sauce - A simple and elegant recipe for an alfredo sauce to go with any pasta.

Black Bean Soup - The absolute best black bean soup I ever had was in a Cuban resturant in Washington, DC that is no longer in business. Here is my own recipe for a good vegetarian black bean soup.
