The next challenge is in Ullapool. It's for 10.000 gilders. On a cliff there's a rope with 8 keys attached to it. A key for every contestant. On the ground there are 8 boxes. Every key fits one of the boxes. Five boxes contain money and three are empty. They have to abseil down the cliff via the rope, take a key and get a box and come back to the top of the cliff to the rest of the group. If they can get all boxes with the money, they have 10.000 gilders. There is a time limit too... 90 minutes. And here's the second chance for Dan: if he has a box with money in it, he can stay and the one who had answered the questions second worst has to go. The others can decide when he can go. Dan walks away to let the others decide when he can go
down.Yvonne:"If you let him go last, there's a bigger chance we already have the boxes with the money. That may sound very hard, but it's a chance for us to stay in the game." So Dan has to go last.
<We hear a piece of the confessions:
Nico:"It was the first time people choose for themselves. It was a deliberate choice. What I noticed was that Sigrid took charge in it."
Sigrid:"I found it a bit shaming to decide about someone's fate like that. But we had to, because it's a small war.">
Yvonne goes first. When she's down on the ground (on the side of the sea) she starts searching to which box the key she took fits. Nico is second. When he's going down, Yvonne arrives back with the group. She opens the box and... it's empty! "Aaaah!", she says, but then takes the money out of her pocket. She had already opened it. Nico also has money. Cor is next. There are 3 boxes with money left and 3 empty ones. So the chance for Dan to stay in the game is fifty-fifty.
<Confession:
Dan:"At a certain point I started thinking about the consequences if I would go last. Suppose 6 people went down and there already is 8.000 gilders (so 4 boxes with money and 2 empty boxes). Then 2 people have to go and there's an
empty
box and one with money.Will they send someone down who really wants to have that
2.000 gilders or will they send someone of who they don't know whether he
is the Mole and whether he wants to sabotage the challenge by letting the money
disappear.">
Cor's box is empty. Yvonne starts searching him to see if he hasn't hid the money somewhere. 'Did you let it fly away?"
Dan tells the rest his thoughts:"I don't want to sabotage, the Mole does. So I have to go before the Mole goes. I have to be before the last one."
Sigrid:"Hypothetically spoken, yeah, but..." Dan:"So you agree?" Sigrid:"Yeah, but you can't change it anymore. And by the way, how do we know you're not the Mole?"
Meanwhile, Doortje and Nazife have gone down too. Doortje got an empty box. So there still are 3 boxes with money and 1 empty box. When she arrives with the rest, Yvonne starts searching her.
<Confession:
Doortje:"Yvonne drove me crazy with her searching the money. I thought 'Leave me alone!'. But it created a suspicion, so I liked that. Then she told me she couldn't see through me."
Yvonne:"When I had searched 2 people, I thought that if I would be the Mole, I would just throw the money away and I wouldn't put it in my pocket, so after 1 or 2 people I stopped searching.">
Björn goes down. Nazife arrives with an empty box. Yvonne:"So all the other boxes contain money now!" Cor:"Unless someone threw the money away."
That's right, the last 3 boxes all have money in them. Unless the Mole had a box with money, but threw it away........
Sigrid goes down, but she's really scared, because she is afraid of heigths. When Björn comes back they ask him whether he has money.
He
says:"Of course! All the boxes contain money now!" Cor:"Yeah,
but we still want to know."Finally Dan can go down. Sigrid took the box with her. She says she can't open it, because the key is bent. Dan has landed and takes the only remaining box... Meanwhile Cor tries to open Sigrid's box... Dan opens his box and finds the money in it! He can stay and is very happy about it. When he arrives back with the group he sees Cor trying to open the box:"I don't have it yet, but there is money in it." Then they all watch Dan. Dan:"Last day in Scotland..." Björn:"What!?" Dan:"But not for me!" and he shows them the money. Björn is the only one who congratulates him. While Dan takes of his gear, we hear him say "I love Scotland."
