Belgian Mole (part 2)
Episode 4
So Luc is gone. The contestants think that it will be very quiet, because Luc always brought pleasure to the group.
Day 9
Today Michiel offers one person in the group 200.000 BEF.
But if he/she takes the money, he/she has to leave the group the day after. And
besides that, there will also be an elimination. The decision can have
consequences for the group. Here are their first reactions:
Dominiek:"200.000 BEF... a nice travel... I want to
reconsider it."
Carine:"I would think about it for myself, but on behalf of
the group I won't do it."
Niki:"It doesn't matter if someone wants to do it. 200.000 is
200.000."
Hugo:"I won't do it and I don't have any problems with it if
someone does."
Michiel needs someone who's get at languages. That's Marianne
because she can speak a little Spanish. She is taken to another location, where
she has to do the National Dutch Dictation.
The others play the game 'Ik ga op reis en ik neem mee' (I'm going to make a
trip, and I take --- with me). Each contestant has to say something he/she takes
along on a trip. The next one has to repeat the previous items that were summed
up and add a new one to the list. For each added item they win 5.000 BEF.
If someone makes a mistake his/her turn is over. David begins with a
parasol, Hugo adds an umbrella, Eef says a passport, Niki
takes a suitcase and Carine shoes. Then it's Dominiek's turn. He
immediately gives up, because he says he's not good at these kind of games. Then
Hugo forgets an item, followed by Eef. Then Niki makes a
mistake and David forgets an item. Carine is the only one who can
add one last item to the list. And she manages to do so. They have summed up 19
items, which makes an amount of 95.000 BEF.
Meanwhile Marianne has written the dictation. She made 15 mistakes. This
means that she has to collect 15 items of the 19 that were summed up by the
others. The others didn't know that Marianne would have to find the
objects. We didn't hear every item, but if you pay attention during the entire
episode you can get to know every item:
Parasol, umbrella, passport, suitcase, shoes, gloves, waterproof hat, T-shirt,
shorts, warm socks, legwarmers, scarf, purse, wallet, pictures, earmuffs, hat
for in the mountains, waterproof clothing.
It will be difficult to find some of these in Spain, like earmuffs and
legwarmers. The 95.000 BEF will only be won if Marianne can find the
15 items. She gets a van and drives to town. But it's noon and all the shops are
closed. In a pub she gets her first item: a picture.
Meanwhile the others have to do another challenge. They have to
split up in two teams. But they must realise that there is a trap in the
challenge! Team A is Carine, Niki and Dominiek. Team B: Hugo,
Eef and David. The first team is led to a place via lots of hallways,
stairs and doors. When they arrive they see ten tv's with VCR's and a laptop.
The tv's are numbered from 1 to 10 and on the screen of the laptop we see the
number 1. They put the tape in the first VCR. They see Michiel explaining them
what they have to do. There are ten riddles. For each solved riddle they get
50.000 BEF. They get an hour to solve them and they have to give in the
answers on the laptop. If it's correct they get a green screen. If not, a red
one.
Riddle 1:
This is a Dutch language game. They have to figure out what this means:
(X-S)(B-U)
ALLES
They try to replace the letters with numbers. ALLES means EVERYTHING. So they
think that when something is divided by everything it will be nothing. So they
give in NOTHING in the laptop. RED SCREEN!!
The first riddle fails. The correct answer was IK BEMIN U BOVEN ALLES = I LOVE
YOU MORE THAN ANYTHING.
Riddle 2:
Complete the following:

Again this is a Dutch riddle, but this one can be translated. In English the
riddle would be to complete:
O T T F F S S E ?
Carine finds the correct answer. It's the N of NEGEN = NIGN. Because it's
O(ne) T(wo) T(hree) ...
Meanwhile Marianne gets a pair of shoes. A man gives her
his wallet. She can also get some socks, a hat
for in the mountains, a bag and a
waterproof hat. She could get it all for free. She's got 14 items, so she only
needs one more object. And suddenly she has an unexpected meeting with someone
she knows. That person is... LUC!!! The man that was eliminated the day before.
Luc says he didn't have a plain back until that evening. So now he was just
walking around. And then they hug each other and they start to cry. Luc asks Marianne
to do his regards to the others. And then he leaves...
Meanwhile the third riddle has failed. Niki, Carine
and Dominiek just give in some silly answers like 'XXX' to quickly pass
on to the next riddle, because their time is limited.
Riddle 5:
A woman is 20 when she gets twins. When she's 30 the twins are 20 together. When
she's 40 the twins are 40 too. When she's 50 the twins are 60 together. So
together they are older than their mother. Question: When will the twins be
twice as old as their mother?
They try to calculate it. But they can't find the correct answer. They think
it's impossible. So they type 'IMPOSSIBLE' on the laptop. GREEN SCREEN!!!
Twins can't be twice as old as their mother, because then they would each have
to be as old as the mother.
The can't solve the other riddles, so they have only solved two. Which makes a
total of 100.000 BEF. Again they are led to another location, again through
doors, stairs and hallways. Then they arrive in a room with tv, where they can
see the room, where they had to solve the riddles. Michiel says:"This is
the trap... In a few seconds the other three will come and they will try to
solve the riddles too. But for every riddle they solve 50.000 BEF will be
substracted of the total amount you won." And since they only solved
two riddles, it may well be that there will be no money left in the end. But one
of them can run back and stop them. Dominiek will run back. This explains
why they had to go through all the doors and hallways. It will be difficult to
find the location. Team B starts solving and Dominiek starts running. Niki
and Carine can see the others. Niki says that Hugo will
probably know some riddles, because that morning he said that he likes to do
crossword puzzles. After a while Hugo finds the first answer. But Eef,
David and Hugo are glad because they found the answer. They don't
know that they loose money by giving the right answers. Just as Hugo
finds the second answer Dominiek comes running in yelling that they must
stop. The three look amazed and wonder what happened. Dominiek explains
everything. The group stops. So they win 50.000 BEF.
Marianne has to get one item. But whi will ever give his passport and where can she find legwarmers in Spain? Finally she sees some leg warmers in a shop, but the shopowners don't want to give it for free. So Marianne starts begging for money. After a while she gets enough money together and she can buy the leg warmers. "Finally a challenge where I cooperated succeeded!".
The entire day, the contestants could think about the
200.000 BEF offer to leave the show. Here are their reactions:
Michiel:"Hugo, are you going for the 200.000?
Hugo:"No."
Eef:"I would never accept that. Definitely not!"
Marianne:"If I would have the money, I would even pay it to
participate in the game."
David:"Money is important, but so is personal
challenge."
Niki:"No, because I don't feel like it and it wouldn't be
nice."
Carine:"I can understand when someone does, but I won't do
it."
Michiel:"Dominiek, are you going for the 200.000?"
Dominiek:"...yes..."
Michiel:"And why?"
Dominiek:"It's the perfect moment for me."
Niki:"Yes, Dominiek has a difficult time, and he wants to get
rid of that David."
David:"Those people are constantly 24/7 in the game. Not all
of them though. But I'm not like that."
Hugo:"I don't think anyone should leave because of friction.
I can accept every reason, but friction must be cleared up."
Marianne:"I'll miss him. I won't be the only one. I hope he
will re-think about it."
Dominiek:"I'm not someone who changes his mind quickly."
Day 10
For the next challenge they need two people who don't like to
expose themselves. That's Niki and Marianne. They are taken away
to a location where they can prepare for the challenge. After a while The others
are taken somewhere else. They see a video, made by Niki and Marianne.
Marianne:"Dear friends."
Niki:"We play the next game against each other. We have a case
with 100.000 BEF and an exemption in it."
Marianne:"You have the key, we need it. If you can find our
hiding place, you'll win 100.000 BEF. If not, we have an exemption. We'll
meet at the Plaza d'Espagna at 4.00 pm. You'll get a cell-phone. Wait for
further instructions."
Niki and Marianne hide the case in a closed kiosk in the park.
They must negotiate to get the key and they have three hours.
Carine and Eef try to find the case in the park. Hugo and David
are looking for it in the square. Dominiek mans the observation
place. Niki is hidden under another kiosk in the square. Marianne
has disguised herself. She wears a wig and has glasses with a camera in it. Hugo
and David walk past her and they don't even recognize her. Finally they
do see her and they follow her. Marianne calls Carine and tells
her to give the key at the kiosk in the square, the one where Niki is
hiding. But Carine says they won't just give the key like that. Marianne:"You
won't go for the 100.000 BEF?" Carine wants to call her
back later. They decide to come together. David keeps an eye on Marianne.
Meanwhile everybody is at the square (except Dominiek who stays at the
observation tower, and Niki who's still hiding) Marianne is on the
phone with Niki and she says where Dominiek is watching them. She
also wants Niki to walk straight into the park when she has the key. But
then the others come closer and Marianne has to hang up.
Carine:"If we give you the key, there will be 100.000 BEF
for the group, but we won't be sure whether there will be one or two exemptions
for you two."
Marianne:"We are going for the money. We get the key of you
and go to our hiding place where the case is. One of us will bring the money
back."
Carine:"And the exemption?"
Marianne:"The person who gets the exemption stays at the
hiding place. If you find it, there is no exemption, if you don't the person
gets the exemption."
Carine:"Can't we just go for the money and no
exemptions?"
Marianne:"No we won't do that, because that's the game."
The others don't want any exemptions because if Dominiek chooses to
leave and someone has an exemption, there will only be a small chance for them
to stay. But Dominiek doesn't want to tell them what he has decided. He
wants to find the hiding place by giving Marianne and Niki a false
key. Carine takes over his position. Dominiek gives the false key
to the man Marianne wanted them to give it to. He wants to follow the
man, but Marianne calls to give them new instructions. They have to get
in a boat together. Dominiek:"She wants us to get in the
boat."
Hugo:"See? I told you so! They aren't stupid and they really
want to go for it!"
Everyone has to get in the boat, so they can't follow the key. The plan
falls through. We hear their voices:
David:"Marianne wants us to be in the boat within 5 minutes or
the deal is off."
Dominiek:"They don't choose for the money, they choose for
the exemption!"
Marianne:"You can't make deals. We say what happens and no
one else does."
Eef:"Carine, we won't give up. They are very
demanding..."
Carine:"No exemptions!"
Marianne:"The deal can only continue if it happens like we
want it."
Dominiek:"They play the game hard, we will play it as hard as
them!"
David:"Can't we just give the key so we'll have
100.000 BEF?"
The game is threatening to stop. But then Dominiek has done a
discovery. He thinks he's found Niki. He calls the others and together
they go to the place. But it's not Niki, but a man with a wig one, lying
on the ground. Dominiek:"What are you doing here?" Man:"I'm
doing a siesta." Dominiek:"No no! No siesta with this
on." (points to the wig)
They now have a new stategy. Dominiek changes clothes with the man and
puts on the wig. Now they can get on board of the boat with the fake Dominiek.
The real Dominiek tries to follow the key. But Niki notices it and
she calls Marianne.
Marianne:"Niki, they have a fake Dominiek in the boat."
Niki:"I heard everything. They also gave a false key. They
were standing almost right next to me."
Marianne calls Eef:"Eef, if it isn't the real ket, the
deal is off!" Eef:"I don't trust you! I really don't
trust you!"
Marianne:"If you're not with the four of you on the boat,
with the real Dominiek... I'll just come to the entrance of the boats ans the
game's over."
They come back to the entrance and Marianne explains that they saw
that they had a fake Dominiek and that they heard about the fake
key. Hugo:"How could you hear that? With this radio?"
But Marianne doesn't tell him.
The others withdraw one last time. Nobody wants the exemption as long as they
don't know what Dominiek will decide. They want to vote whether they
choose for the money (and the exemption) or for nothing at all. Dominiek
isn't allowed to vote according to the others, because he doesn't have the right
to vote for something when he decides to leave afterwards. But Dominiek
doesn't understand. Marianne calls Carine.
Carine:"Marianne wants to know our decision right now! She must
have her reasons for that!"
Dominiek:"OK I'll choose for no exemption then."
Hugo:"No! You only have a right to vote if you stay in the
group!"
Eef:"What are you going to do?"
Dominiek:"I have to tell that tonight."
Hugo:"OK, then you won't vote! Sorry!"
They all choose to go for nothing. No money, no exemption. Marianne
then explains how they heard everything about the false key. "Niki, you
can come out of your hiding place now!" And there she is. She sat under
the kiosk for almost three hours. Although they haven't won anything, everyone's
relieved, because there are no exemptions.
Should I stay or should I go?
That evening there is a small party for Dominiek, because
maybe he will go. The others try to persuade him to stay. Then they have to come
together. Michiel takes a cheque of 200.000 BEF. "Here's the
cheque. Or have you changed your mind?"
Everybody looks at Dominiek. Dominiek looks at the cheque....

The group doesn't know the consequences of Dominiek's choice. Because if
he decides to leave, the person who was last eliminated will come back. And
that's Luc. He always stayed in the neighbourhood of the group. This explains
the unexpected meeting between Luc and Marianne.

Dominiek looks at the cheque. He reaches his hand to the cheque and then
he says:"I think I've changed my mind." Some of the contestants
are happy. Some of them aren't that happy...
So Dominiek stays and has to do the questionnaire. And Luc will go home
that night together with the contestant who will be eliminated.
Suspicions
Marianne:"I knew he wouldn't leave. I like him, but I thought he
was just playing a game. It didn't really like it."
Hugo:"Suppose Dominiek says he will leave, he isn't the Mole.
So the game he's playing confirms my suspicions."
Niki:"He was acting very well today and yesterday. If it was
acting, but I think it was."
Carine:"Eef is the Mole to me. If I think about the things
that have happened, I sense that Eef is feeling uncomfortable."
Eef:"I was against the exemption today. I didn't care about
the 100.000 BEF. Dominiek and David have become real friends today. I don't
know what wrong with them."
Niki:"I think it will get tougher when there will be less
people."
Marianne:"I think the suspicions will get very hard."
Dominiek:"I think everything will be OK for the next few
days.I truly believe in that!"
Suspicious for the viewers:
Who put the items leg warmers and earmuffs on the list. Because it's
very hard to find those things in a warm country like Spain.
Dominiek, Niki and Carine couldn't solve much riddles.
Hugo solved the first riddle very quickly and he just found the answer to
the second riddle when Dominiek came running in.
Niki and Marianne want to go for the exemption; the others don't.
They even choose to go for nothing.
