Laura headed to Breakaway, a campus-wide Bible study, expecting to meet up with Robert and his roommate Daniel. However, when Daniel arrived, he told her that Robert would be late. Breakaway started and ended, and Robert was nowhere to be found. After a phone call from Daniel, Robert met up with Laura and Daniel in the stands of the track complex.

Robert asked Laura how her day had been and suggested that they talk about it on a walk around campus, a walk which he had expressed a desire to take a few days prior to that night. As Laura chatted Robert's ear off once again, she discovered that they had walked all the way to Academic Plaza. At that point, Robert suggested that they walk under the famous Century Tree.

Century Tree is a place rooted deep in Aggie tradition. Its long branches drape over the sidewalk, creating an arch. It is said that the person you walk under Century Tree with is the person you will marry. An Aggie never walks under Century Tree by him/herself or with a person that he/she does not intend to marry.

Yet somehow, Robert got Laura seated on the bench under Century Tree with absolutely no clue of what was going on. In fact, Laura kept looking around nervously because she was afraid that people walking by would think that a proposal was going on when she was sure that one was not. Boy, was she mistaken!!!

There under Century Tree, Robert got down on his knee and asked Laura to be his wife. After a shocked Laura happily said, "Yes," Robert explained that he was late to Breakaway because he drove to Frisco that afternoon to ask Laura's parents for her hand in marriage. Robert's perfect attention to detail, which goes far deeper than there is space to express, resulted in success!
