Really tired today, don't really know why, just am. Had a discussion about the Orc game with Andy last night. Nice to know I'm not the only one that's had a few 'problems' with the game. I am enjoying the game, but Andy pointed out I'm enjoying the interplay between our characters, not the actual adventures themselves. Ben is running a good game, but he's not really paying attention to the players. He has a story to tell, and he's gonna tell it, even if we are dragged kicking and screaming into it. Andy's running tonight, and has asked me to ditch the minotaur character I'd made. I'm inclined to agree with him, I was really only playing the Minotaur for a change of pace, and because I was stuck for inspiration for another character. Andy pointed out that for now, my minotaur is ok, but pretty soon he'll come into his stride, and start being too competent, and I'll lose another character. It's kind of difficult to make a character for the Orc game, because it really does look like, if you're too competent, Ben will kill you. Andy mentioned it last night, my last character was a perfectly reasonable character, but for some reason it scared Ben, so he put me up against something I had no chance against, and I died. If the game does continue beyond Rich leaving, we're worried for Joe's character next. Ben seems to have problems with any player who starts doing 'high' damage. My previous character had an average damage of 14 points (24 if I power attacked), and Andy thinks I was killed as a result. Joe is about to get two attacks next level, and he's a rogue, so he'll be doing about 6d6 damage on a full attack.
Blah, enough of that. More bitching won't do any good, and as I say, I'm enjoying the game enough to duck out of one night of my computer course every two weeks.
Saw Ninth Gate last night. I remember wanting to see it originally, but never got round to it. I do tend to like Johnny Depp films, he always entertains, and even though this one did plod along, I liked it quite a bit. Very much like a Cthulhu investigation I thought.
I'm going to change my internet password. Grant has been using it without my permission, and I think to access porn sites. Every time I use the internet after he's been in my room on his own, ostensibly to play Judge Dredd, or Tron, or my Xbox, I find all my cookies have been deleted, and my history erased. I was on DAOC recently too, to cancel my subscription, and noticed Grant's characters had about 10 more levels than the last time he asked to play. Thing is, I don't really mind, if he'd ask 'Can I use your internet?', but he doesn't. he says 'Can I play on your Xbox?', and that's what I expect him to do. It's furtive, and deceptive, and that's what I'm not happy with.
Right now I'm trying to design an Orc character. I'm ending up with another fighter, but I'm trying not to do too much damage this time, nor have too high an armour class (things I'm told make me stand out as a character Ben will kill off because it upsets him). Going for a Slaine style fighter, Axe and shield, no armour, bare knuckle fighter. Not bad so far. Problem will come when allocating equipment. I'll have far more than the rest of the party, which can lead to some jealousy. I think I'll stick with 5th level cash, instead of the 6th I could do.
Took a holiday from work tomorrow and Thursday. Hopefully will be able to go se Matrix Revolutions when it opens tomorrow, but have a feeling it may be booked out, in which case I guess I go on Thursday. Would have had Friday off, but could have caused problems at my course, so decided I'd go in during the morning. Possibly go see Kill Bill on the afternoon. |
