Road to Avonlea the Reunion
by Mags

Part 1

Felicity sat on the front porch of King Farm with Alice and Hannah by her side. Hannah was three months old now, and look like her father. Alice was learning sign language and the American alphabet; she was fitting right in, in Avonlea. Felicity and Gus were thinking of adopting her since she had no family left, but it wasn’t going over to well with Gus being blind, the adoption agents were concerned with Gus being able to provide for Alice since, he was legally blind.

Gus came outside and sat beside his wife.

"When’s Sara’s train due in?" He asked.

Gus had found a replacement to take over his position as the Naval Telegraph Office, when Hannah was born, so that he could spend more time with his family and in Avonlea.

"Soon, Felix went to pick her up a few minutes ago."

The one good thing about the army was they sent you home when you were hurt and didn’t call you back until you were completely healed. More damage had been done to Felix’s arm then they had expected, some of the ligaments that had been torn when the bullet entered his arm didn’t heal properly, so he no longer had the full use of his arm.

"It’s a shame that Arthur has enlisted," Gus said with a smirk on his face.

"Gus Pike! I am ashamed of you! Thinking like that!"

Alice was watching curiously, in a short time at King Farm she had learned to read a few words and was picking up more all the time. Felicity realized that Alice was watching.

"Alice," she signed. "Why don’t you go and play with Daniel…he’s by the swing."

Alice nodded and ran for the swing.

"Gus what if I had refused your proposal in the first place and married Arthur instead, what would you have done?"

"I would have stayed dead as long as I could have." He said with determination in his voice.

"Gus, you would’ve let the memory of me creep back into your heart and you would have came back to Avonlea."

"Felicity, you know your are probably right."

"Gus are ya happy that I came looking for you?" Her tone went serious.

"If I weren’t happy would I do this?" He asked just before he kissed her.

After a few seconds they heard some giggling, they stopped. Felicity turned around and saw Daniel and Alice standing at the corner of the house watching them.

"Daniel! Alice! Why don’t you go pick some carrot’s." She said as she signed.

Over at the whistle stop, Felix was waiting for Sara’s train to arrive. When the train finally pulled in it was ten minutes late. As usual Sara was one of the first ones off the train, she immediately spotted Felix and waved frantically. Felix got out of the buggy and fetched Sara’s luggage.

"Felix King! You put that down! Wait ‘til you see who I found." She grabbed him by the arm and dragged him over to the bench. Sitting on it was a tall man, with medium brown hair, blue eyes and an unmistakable face.

"Andrew! You should have written! You could have spent hours here."

"I did write! I guess you never got my letter."

"I guess we didn’t, I don’t know where you’ll stay King Farm is full. Well let’s get loaded up so we can get home."

Andrew helped Felix load up the luggage into the back of the buggy.

"Andrew I want to be the first to tell ya…" Said Sara

"Tell me what? Felix why is she smiling?"

"I don’t know? Sara why are you smiling?" Felix responded. He already knew why she was smiling, but he didn’t want to ruin Sara’s surprise for Andrew.

"Well…" Sara continued "you know that Felicity and Gus are married now right? But you wouldn’t know this because you were in South America for the last eight months."

"Sara hurry it up already, I’m dying of suspense here."

"Felicity and Gus just had a daughter, and are planning to adopt a deaf little girl that she has been teaching."

The rest of the trip was made in silence except for some whispering coming from the back seat of the buggy.

When they arrived at King Farm, Felicity was more surprised than Felix had been at the whistle stop.

"Gus, it’s Andrew!" She exclaimed before she got up and ran to him. Gus just stood there calmly and signaled Daniel and Alice over.

Andrew walked over to Gus after answering Felicity’s questions.

"Hello Gus" Said Andrew as they shook hands.

"What has it been Andrew, seven years since you’ve stepped foot in Avonlea."

"About that, yah."

Their conversation was obviously awkward. Andrew had a degree in Medicine, Gus was a sailor but that all ended on the fateful trip of the Maid of Calais.

"Daniel," said Gus "this is your cousin Andrew he left Avonlea when you were babe."

"Well, I haven’t seen Hannah yet and I’m assuming that the little girl clinging to Gus’ leg is Alice, so Hannah must be in that wicker basket." Sara looked in the basket. "Oh, Felicity, may I hold her?" she asked.

"Yes, Sara you may hold her."

For about fifteen minutes Hannah was bounced from Sara’s arms to Andrew’s arms, back to Sara’s and then finally she found her way to her father’s arms where she fell to sleep.

They sat outside for a bit, when it got too cold, they went inside and waited for Aunt Janet, Uncle Alec, Aunt Hetty and Cecily.

Janet and Alec were in Carmody picking up a few things. Hetty was at Green Gables visiting Rachael and the twins, now that Rachael was well enough to live by herself again. Cecily was just finishing up her shift at the telegraph office.

The King Family had decided to eat together in celebration of Sara’s homecoming and out of Paris.

Cecily was the first to arrive out of the four that were missing; she literally jumped into Andrew’s arms. When the others arrived they were calmer than Cecily had been. Alec shook hands with Andrew while Hetty and Janet gave him a hug and kissed him on the cheek.

After answering more or less the same questions, Janet set the table with an extra place setting and they all ate a delicious chicken, with some potatoes, carrots, and a chocolate cake for dessert. Later Sara, Andrew and Hetty left for Rose Cottage, since King Farm was full. Andrew was to stay in Olivia’s room, and Sara, well she had her own room.
