Part 2 of "Road to Avonlea :

The Reunion"

Day came just as quickly as it had vanished. The occupants of Rose Cottage awoke to the sound of the rooster welcoming the day.

Hetty was the first one up and was in the kitchen. The smell of frying bacon caused Andrew to wake from his slumber. He quickly dressed and headed for the kitchen.

"Aunt Hetty since when did you eat bacon and eggs for breakfast?" he asked

"Since you can home, now eat up! I must go wake Sara." Hetty replied, and soon after climbed the stairs and knocked on Sara’s door. "Sara Stanley! Are you going to sleep the day away?"

Sara awoke at this she was not going to have her aunt think that people in Paris sleep until noon. Sara climbed out of bed and threw her dressing robe on.

"No Aunt Hetty, I’ll be down in a minute…I can dress later," she thought to herself

Andrew had already finished his breakfast by the time Sara has presented herself.

"Child you aren’t even dressed yet!" Hetty was shocked at this. "Surely you dress before you eat breakfast at L’ecole des Beax Arts."

"Yes they do, Aunt Hetty, I just didn’t want to keep you waiting, plus I’m starved the food on the boat and train wasn’t all that delicious." Sara sat down at the table and helped herself. Halfway through she realized that there was no porridge to be seen of, she quickly asked "Aunt Hetty, where’s your porridge?"

"Sara since both you and Andrew are home, I’ve decided to serve you both your favorite meals."

"Aunt Hetty, that isn’t necessary," added Andrew "You shouldn’t have to change your eating habits, just because we are here."

"I have to agree with Andrew, this is your house, we are merely guests that help ourselves, you don’t have to make sacrifices to please us, I love porridge and so does Andrew."

Sara has finished her breakfast and returned to her room to dress, she pulled out a very lovely dark blue coat dress that was made out of velveteen and had a white lace trim.

"Sara you look astonishing!" commented Andrew when she had left her room.

"Andrew I’m going over to visit with Felicity and Gus, would you like to join me?" inquired Sara.

"Love to but I promised Andrew I would go fishing with him, but I will see you at supper tonight."

"Okay, have a good time, try to bring back supper."

"You have a good time too."

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

While Andrew and Felix were fishing, Sara, Felicity, and Gus were sitting out in the back by the swing.

Gus had laid out a blanket on which he and Felicity were sitting on. Hannah was in her bassinet close to Felicity. Alice was inside taking her daily nap and Cecily was writing letters to her friends that were still sadly in the sanitarium. Sara was perched on the swing.

"Sara do tell me what Paris is like? Or was like before the war started." Asked Felicity

"Paris is the most romantic place on Earth, there is something in the air that makes it like that. There are bistros on every corner and cafes, and the food is just like Pierre’s, full of flavor and color. Now you can hear the constant shelling and the artillery guns going off every night, sometimes you can see the white flashes. It makes you wonder how many lives have been sacrifices over some stupid land dispute! I am so glad that I left, I couldn’t take it anymore, the constant fear of ‘what if the Germans advance and take over the allied trenches and destroy Paris, would I be sparred?’"

"That must have been horrifying, living in constant fear. I would have never survived; I am surprised that Aunt Hetty didn’t pull you out the minute Germany declared war.

"Felicity it’s getting colder out here maybe we should be getting inside?" Said Gus

"You are right Gus," Replied Felicity

Gus picked up Hannah while Sara and Felicity folded up the blanket and the bassinet. Upon getting inside there was no evidence that Alice had woken up from her nap.

"Cecily, is Alice up from her nap yet?" asked Felicity

"No, not yet. Maybe we should go check on her," said a puzzled Cecily

"I think that is a good idea, she is usually up by now and running around." Said Gus

Cecily went upstairs and opened the door and there was Alice in one of Cecily’s dresses that she had laid out on her bed, she had a hat on and shoes.

"Felicity! Come! Quickly!" Cecily called down the stairs.

Felicity ran up the stairs thinking that something that something was wrong, she looked in the door and then burst out laughing hysterically.

"Let’s get you cleaned up and presentable for Aunt Hetty, Lord knows she’ll see us as unfit parents." She said. Felicity stripped her down to her flannel underclothes; she went into he wardrobe and pulled out one of her and Cecily’s old dress. (Click here to see the dress) "There now don’t you look pretty as a picture. Do you want me to put your hair up in braids?" She signed.

Alice nodded her head. Felicity had finished the braids, picked Alice up and proceeded downstairs.

"Anybody hungry? It’s almost 5 o’clock, the boys should be back soon."

"Oh Felicity, I was supposed to tell you that they were trying to bring back supper." Said Sara

"In the middle of September? I’m glad we have a roast just in case, besides we can always eat the fish tomorrow."

"Well I’ll help anyway, I’ll look after Alice, we’ll go outside and play for a bit."
