Concert On the Hill ! June 28, 2002 Starring: Nickelback, Default, Finger Eleven, Crush, Three Days Grace, The Trews, Thousands of insane fans We went to the Concert on the Hill event. Being the major prude that I am, the website said no cameras and I listened...Ok, since I have no pictures for you, I give you my reviews of each of the shows on the Hill, enjoy!! The Trews : Rock band from Antigonish N.S, They were the perfect opening act. These guys were 100% rock n' roll, sounded great, and employed such classic live crowd pleasers like the drum solo and the guitar behind the head thing. I doubt The Trews will ever be more than an opening act nationaly, they need something that could be a hit, not just an ok rock song. Three Days Grace: New band who just release their first single "I hate everything about you". Their music was considerably darker and slower than The Trews. In contrast, they didn't give a good show really, only played for 30 minutes. Pretty much another Korn meets Tool band, starting to be a few too many of these. Crush: Band from Newfoundland, they combine the traditional folklore sound with rock, but more rock than anything. They were definitely the softest band there and really didn't get my attention. Their set just didn't have much punch in comparison to others, but still sounded ok. Finger Eleven: Great in that they got the crowd more into it and showed their experience doing shows like this. Heavy at times, most of their songs except for their hits sounded the same pretty much. Overall, still very energetic and fulfilling show. Default: Sounded good overall. Performance was slowed by show starting late and injured mosh pit kids. Still didn't really blow me away, including their preview of their first sinlge of their upcoming album, another commercial ballad. Need to diversify and stop playing all of their songs in drop D. Nickelback: By far the best show of the night, they really put the crowd into it. They performed their set effortlessly while throwing in some cool pyrotechnics. They played all the good stuff (I would know since I got their Silver Side Up CD) and just plain kicked ass. Perhaps the best live show I've seen in years. Overall, one hell of a show, everything I would expect out of a full day event. Till next year! |
