Swimfan Swimfan is
best described as a "Fatal Attraction" in a high school context
(note Im quoting other critics, sadly I haven`t seen Fatal Attraction).
A young swimmer in a loving relationship chooses the wrong girl to have
an affair with and is stalked and threathened by the "girl who won`t
go away" in this suspenseful but disappointing teen movie. I had high hopes for this one. The main reason was the thought of the fling who won`t go away to me is more terrifying than being chased by Micheal Myers. The idea of the movie probably wouldn`t scare most girls, but inspire them. I also liked Erika Christensen in Traffic and thought she would play a good psycho chick. Indeed Erika Christensen is a bright spot in the movie, much brighter than the other aspects of the movie. I won`t be too harsh since it`s clearly a teen movie, so it will have the cheese factor of Scream and The In-Crowd. But honestly, did the producer look at his movie for obvious flaws? The editing is particular bad, the way the shots sort of go into instant replay at some points is incredibly annoying. Did they think it was cool? Who did the editing, the editing crew from the Jenny Jones show?? The cast itself after Erika Christensen isn`t exactly potential packed, but I`ve seen much worse. I `ve also seen much more predictable movies, but even for a teen movie the storyline is pretty sloppy. But the idea of the psycho fling sort of balances everything out to make an ok movie. I guess if you can`t feel the guy`s pain, there is no real point of seeing the movie ( My girlfriend thought it really sucked). Given the crap that is currently out there and what is coming, if you`ve got 10 bucks to spare, it is not so bad a choice. In short: Rating: B- |
