Marion Bridge October 3, 2003 Starring: Molly Parker, Marguerite McNeil, Stacy Smith Director: Wiebke voin Carolsfeld From now on my dear followers, I will be reviewing some of the indie films I will be seeing regularly. I am a few weeks behind but I promise to keep it up to date in the future. The first film, Marion Bridge, was filmed in Nova Scotia Canada in 2003. It is about a family of sisters and their mothers' dysfunctional family and the trials of losing their ill mother. Though it sounds a little chick flicky, and it is a little, it is still enjoyable for its' intersting characters and strong story, but little else. The acting is pretty good, including Molly Parker, a superstar in Canada (sort of). It doesn't do anything to really impress, just tells a good story many people will find compelling and is played well. Those who might not find the movie compelling, not surprisingly, will be men. It has chick flick characteristics to say the least. One thing that should never appear in any movie, chick, indie, whatever, should be misplaced mics in the corner of 1/3 of the shots!! It sure makes N.S. film makers look stupid, although some camera shots were pulled off ok. It really takes away from getting into the story... duh! Anyways, If you can find this in a local indie film showing nearby, it will be good if you like a good emotional flick. For some of you, you might fall asleep pretty quick. It's your call, but I say support Canadian Film!! In short: Rating: C+ |
