28 Days Later July 20, 2003 Starring:Cillian Murphy, Naomie Harris, Christopher Eccleston, Megan Burns, Brendan Gleeson Director:Danny Boyle Official Website: http://www2.foxsearchlight.com/28dayslater/ 28 Days Later is the first good thriller/horror to come out this year. In a film which looks more like an independent british film, it is probably the poor film quality of England and the inability to understand some of the british slang that keeps this from being a great movie, though it is still pretty darn good. What makes this a success is not only the ability to make you jump out of your seat, but the underlying story and characters are good enough on their own. Unlike most horror movies, the scary scenes are few and far between, not to mention completely unexpected which makes it more effective. There is also no cheesy computer animated cgi crap. All evil comes from human actors, something seen less and less nowadays. What works against this movie? It is made in Engalnd on less than hollywood quality film. Based on the quality, it looks like either a low budget independent film or a early 90's flick. Also, everyone talks british. Though some movies like Clockwork Orange were able to get away with british slang for 2 hours, this one gets a little iritating and takes away from the movie. All in all, I still recommend it, though only 18 year olds plus get to see it due to its gore and male nudity...yep male nudity! The fact that there is male nudity and not female nudity is a common theme in this movie that it wants to break the horror movie cliches, which it does. I only wish they had kept some of them. In short: Rating: B+ |
