Crescent Moon O'er Bosphorus

By Robert James DeBurgh (Poet)

High o'er Bosphorus waves
Glinting on cradles, knocking shops, and graves
The Crescent Moon! The Crescent Moon! Oh yea 'tis tops,
This moon of June to soon hath come our way
Considering 'tis not yet mid-May.
And yet it lights the Way.
The Way! The Way! The Way!
The Secret Way!
Whereby, down the lane beside Mustafa's bakery
(Best bread in Istanbul!)
That lane of slippery muck
Where I slip o' nights into Fatima's arms
And we spend the night having Tea,
Lapsang Suchong!

Istanbul 12th August 1887

One of the rare instances where RJdB accurately dated a Work, instead of his usual Place and Year dating. This conclusively establishes that he was in Istanbul on the 12th August 1888, but for the fact that a dispatch dated the same day from him in Jerusalem to the Colonial Office proves otherwise. However, we refer readers to address given in the 1950's concerning the Extended Descartes Principle.
