What is Canoeing

Canoeing is a term commonly used to describe the sport. There are various disciplines in canoeing, using different types of canoes.

Recreational canoeing

Sprint on flat water and marathon

Canoe polo

Shalom on whitewater

Recreational canoeing is what most of us are familiar with, with canoes available for rental at East Coast Park and various beach resorts around Singapore. Enjoy a few hours of paddling in the open sea and in the sun. For the more adventurous, a trip to the Southern Islands is both challenging and fun.

The RJC Canoeing Team aims to organise an expedition each year to the Southern Islands during the school holidays to enrich our students' canoeing experiences.

Sprinting on flat water is more often carried out in the Kallang Basin. It is all about speed. The kayakists paddles at top speed for distances of 500 meters or 1000 meters.  This competitive discipline is the main focus of the Canoeing Team. Marathon is about strength and endurance. The distance covered can be very far, 16 kilometres or 22 kilometre.

The RJC Canoeing Team takes part in this competitive discipline as its main activity.

Canoe polo is played in half of an Olympic size swimming pool. It is like playing basketball using canoes and paddles.

The RJC Canoeing Team currently does not take part in this discipline.

Shalom on whitewater is not found in Singapore. It is kayaking in whitewater rapids in river. There is no whitewater in Singapore. The nearest to be found would be in Malaysia.

The RJC Canoeing Team currently does not take part in this discipline.
