Paddles

All paddles have two main parts; the blades ( two for a kayak, one for a canoe) and the shaft.
The blades of a kayak paddle are offset in relation to each other. While one blade is pulling in the water, the other is trying to slide through air. The offset allows the blade to slice through the air more easily.

    Feathering

It is the action of turning the paddle blades with each stroke so that they enter the water square to the direction of pull.
Feathered paddles make it possible to move faster and are ergonomically better for the kayaking action than non-feathered paddles.
