Team Spirit

Canoeing is a team sports. Although each kayakist may compete in his or her individual event, they are competing as part of the whole team. The success of the team depends on each and everyone.

Canoeing is not an easy sport. It requires skill, balance, strength and determination. All of our kayakists are new to the sport. They have not experienced sprint kayaking before joining the team. But RJC has always done well in the National Inter-School Championships.

Long hours are spent paddling in the Kallang Basin and training in school. Sacrifices have to be made. It is not easy. Not when you capsize for the hundredth time and have to swim to shore, towing your kayak with you, or wait for someone to rescue you.  One lapse of concentration and you lose your balance, treating yourself to a taste of the Kallang River waters.

Why join Canoeing?
I like canoeing.
I enjoy the challenge.
I like the strong team spirit.
I prefer the firm discipline in the team.
I enjoy watching the condominiums at Tanjong Rhu.
I have never tried canoeing before.
I was conned by friends/seniors.
I don't know.
