Hello and Welcome, My name is D.J.Ayres . I am the creator behind River Wind Flutes . I began my journey in wood working at the age of 11 when I built my first shed building for my father after I begged him for a circular saw for my birthday. "I'm sure he was worried I would cut all of my fingers off" but he went ahead and purchased it for me anyway, "boy was he trusting". I then went on to Vocational School where I learned the fundamentals of power tools, wood selection, and home construction, I later landed my first job as an apprentice carpenter building custom homes with an old timer Named Clyde Stickle Who taught me detailed finish carpentry and all of the ins and outs of custom home construction this knowledge has provided quite well for me and my family. and I'm very appreciative to all of the people who have helped me to gain knowledge in wood working throughout the years. A number of years ago I attended a Pow Wow at a reservation in Rancoacas Woods in my home state of New Jersey I was fascinated by the art work and beautiful crafts of the Native American People while I was there I met a man named Danny Begay, and his wife Kay Littlejohn ,both flute makers who were giving a demonstration on how to make a Native American Flute, They were also displaying as well as playing some of there fine flutes at the craft fair. I was instantly struck with awe when I heard the beautiful music coming from there flutes. I then said to myself, self, I have to learn how to make one of these wonderful instruments, the next day I went to the library and took out every book I could find about native american flutes and there music, as well as searching the internet and many other publications and recources. After much trial and error I finally made a flute that sounded good and had lots of volume, It was made from a beautiful peice of Aromatic Cedar as well as a hand carved Kokopelli for a totem that i made myself. And the rest is history. I strive to make my flutes musically excellent in every way, to achive maximum volume and sustain as well as visual beauty, a flute thst you want to touch as well as play. "I hope that you enjoy playing our flutes as much as we enjoy creating them."
