Riley Area Development Corporation in partnership with Roberts Park Methodist Church and Monument Management, are restoring and renovating the former Davlan Family Hotel. Originally built by owners Hugh McKlandon and George S. Oliver in 1915, the hotel rented rooms for $11 a month which included a single or two-room suite with running hot and cold water and detached baths.

The new facility will include 50 one and two bedroom apartments. Apartments will be available for individuals at forty, fifty, and sixty percent of median income, as well as market rate units. The Davlan will also include 15,000 square feet of commercial space on the first floor. The space can accommodate up to nine storefronts with large windows and individual entrances.

The 11th Street Townhomes will include ten single family townhomes on a vacant lot in the St. Joseph Historic Neighborhood. Each home will have three bedrooms, 2.5 baths, an attached garage, and over 1300 square feet of living space. These homes are being made available to individuals or families whose income falls at or below 80% of the area median income.

These units will add to the core of homeowers in an area which is largely rental housing, helping to stablize the area. The homes also provide the hard to come by affordable housing for downtown workers.

Phase 1 is now complete, adding five new families to the neighborhood. Phase 2 will begin in the last quarter of 2000.

Riley is partnering with S.C. Bodner Company to rehabilitate these historic townhouses located just south of the Seminole on Alabama Street. They will be rented at prevailing market rates for five years and then sold as homeownership units. This project is supported by Historic Tax Credits, a loan from Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana, and a "Hometown Indiana" grant from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
