22/11/2001 (www.fcbayern.de) Salihamidzic defiant despite injury
Brazzo: 'I'm not thrown off course so easily'
It appears nothing can shock Hasan Salihamidzic. Even after the devastating news of his cruciate ligament tear on Wednesday - one of the most serious injuries a sportsman can suffer - the Bosnian has maintained his upbeat outlook. "I'm not the kind of guy to shed tears over this, I just have to get through it," the 24 year-old said in an exclusive interview with FCB.de.
Coolly and calmly, Bayern's midfield dynamo explained what will now happen to him. On Thursday he will fly to America, and assuming all goes well, will undergo surgery as soon as the following day. "But I'm not worried about the next few weeks," the man nicknamed "Brazzo" said optimistically.
Furthermore, even before his operation, he has a date in sight for a comeback. "If everything goes well, I'll be back on the field at the end of March, or a month later at the worst. I'm a fighter and I'm going to make it. I'm not thrown off course so easily," he declared.
Hasan, how did you take the terrible news about your cruciate ligament? How are you?
Hasan Salihamidzic: "Actually I'm all right. It's happened, and there's nothing I can do to change it. I'm not the kind of guy to shed tears over this, I just have to get through it."
What's the plan for the next few days?
Hasan Salihamidzic: "I'm flying to Vail on Thursday, and if all goes according to plan, Professor Steadman will operate on Friday. I'll be coming back to Munich at the beginning of next week, and will then start rehab training as soon as possible."
So the season is over for you?
Hasan Salihamidzic: "No, I don't think so. If everything goes well, I'll be back on the field at the end of March, or a month later at the worst."
In normal circumstances, a cruciate ligament injury means a half year away from sport. Why are you so optimistic?
Hasan Salihamidzic: "The injury is not as serious as it could be, only the frontal cruciate is affected and not the rear. I'm a fighter and I'm going to make it. I'm not thrown off course so easily. I'm not worried about the next few weeks."
What have your team mates been saying to you?
Hasan Salihamidzic: "They were of course very upset and wished me the best of luck for the operation. The best way they can help me is with a series of victories in the next few weeks, and winning the World Club Championship."
Best of luck for the operation, Brazzo!
Hasan Salihamidzic: "Thanks a lot and see you soon."
