Salihamidzic out for six months
Just as Bayern's sick list had been brought down to two in the shape of Roque Santa Cruz and Mehmet Scholl, the club's season of injury misery has taken another turn for the worse. Tuesday?s Champions League encounter with Manchester United has resulted in a further player suffering a serious injury.
Hasan Salihamidzic, who left the field with a slight limp after 73 minutes, has sustained an 80 percent tear to the cruciate ligament in his right knee, and has also torn the posterior ligament, club medical chief Dr. M�ller-Wohlfahrt said on Wednesday morning. The 24 year-old Bosnian midfielder suffered the injury in a collision with United�s Quentin Fortune.
"This is a cruel blow for the player and the team, as Hasan has been in sparkling form recently. We wish him all the best and a speedy recovery," coach Ottmar Hitzfeld said in his first statement on the shock development.
Salihamidzic will now fly to Colorado where he will undergo surgery, as soon as an appointment can be made with knee specialist Dr Richard Steadman. "Brazzo" will be thinking of a comeback in around six months at the earliest, according to M�ller-Wohlfahrt, meaning the Bosnian?s season is as good as over.
Berlin-based knee specialist Professor Peter Hertel operated on the midfielder only four weeks ago after the player suffered a meniscus injury. Salihamidzic was able to return to first team action just ten days later in Bayern�s home encounter with Hamburg on November 3rd.
