10,000 Geese of 5 species. approx. 6,000-7,000 ducks. OLDSQUAW and COMMON MERGANSER were best, also RBME and 150+ HOME. 12+ GRSC

2000 each of REDH and RNDU. Lots of Ducks and Geese, sparrow numbers still low.

At least 5,000 ducks on the Big Mineral Arm. Over 1,000 each of RNDU and REDH, (approx. 2000 were too far away to be identifiable). 100 Canvasbacks, 100 Pintails, 200 Green-winged Teal. 1000 Snow Geese, 300 Ross's, 50 Canadas, 150 Greater White-fronted

Wintering Waterfowl have moved in for the winter. Over 500 RNDU and 200 REDH were accompanied by 1000 Snows mixed in with Ross's, Cackling, White-fronted (150+), and Canada. Sparrow numbers are still low, and will probably stay that way throughout the winter due to a very dry summer. I'm getting really lazy about updating the website, but I'm still birding the refuge pretty regularly, just give me a call at 214 384 8085 for latest conditions and species of note.

1500 Ducks, Redheads, Gadwall, GWTE, BWTE, RNDU, LESC, CANV, MALL, NOPI, WODU. Also an Eared Grebe, plenty of sparrows.

approx. 1000 ducks on the lake, 500 Redhead, 200 Lesser Scaup, also RNDU, AMWI, RUDU, GWFG, NOPI

2500 Ducks were on the lake. 500 Redheads, 250 Lesser Scaup, and a bunch of other species. Also Spotted Towhee, lots of Swamp Sparrows, also some Songs, White-crowned, lots of Savannah's. Winter is here.

Hagerman is finally starting to pick up for the winter, expect lots of ducks, sparrows, and geese.

NELSON'S SHARP-TAILED SPARROW was found by the high water crossing on Meyer's Branch Creek North of HQ on the lake side of the road. (Dr. Wayne Meyer)

Nothing really exciting, A 3-foot long CANEBRAKE RATTLESNAKE was the most interesting occurrence of the day.

September 20, 2005
AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER is still present. MERLIN was also seen. The most interesting sighting of the day had to go to a BEWICK'S WREN CAUGHT IN AN ORB WEAVER'S WEB, the bird escaped when I was about 2 feet away, but it was hanging motionless and upside down for at least 30 seconds prior to its escape.

Bird of the day was an AMERICAN-GOLDEN PLOVER (originally found by Wayne Meyer). 6 SORA were flushed from Steedman Marsh. Also present were two early MARSH WRENS.

RED KNOT was not relocated. Birds of note were over 15 OSPREY, at least that many SORA, and a MERLIN.

The RED KNOT has now been present for two weeks.

The RED KNOT was there for the twelfth day in a row. Also present were two LARK BUNTINGS.

RED KNOT is still there (amazingly), it is becoming more difficult to find as water levels go down in the pond between P and Q pads. 8 Days and counting, got to hear it call today, that was awesome.

Made a quick trip out, the RED KNOT was still present, as were 13 other species of shorebirds. The Knot has been there for 6 days now.

The RED KNOT was still present between P and Q pads. A MOURNING WARBLER was present a little bit past the entrance to the Meadow Pond trail.
