Places to bird at Hagerman and Links
September 13, 2005
Shorebird migration is winding down, but 15 shorebird species days are still possible (15 today, 17 yesterday). The place to be at this time of year is on the pads (O, P, and Q). The specific pads vary according to water levels for shorebirds, but warblers will be in the willows and buttonbushes on all of them. The refuge managers are also starting to flood fields, check the field across from O pad, it had the FOS Wilson's Snipe on the 10th, and it has held at least 10 species of shorebirds for 2 trips running.
Make sure you check any open water for terns and wandering pelagic birds.
Also try to make a quick run through the larger woods on the South and West portions of the refuge, stopping to scan through Chickadee flocks for warblers.

BIRDS OF NOTE in the last few weeks have included RED KNOT, LARK BUNTING, CASPIAN TERN, BROWN PELICAN, LONG_BILLED CURLEW (BG, DH) and MARBLED GODWIT.
