Piper is the newest addition to the family. She arrived here as a cute and fluffy bundle of ENERGY (without an off switch!) in May 2001.
At the age of 2 Piper is proving to be a very versatile little girl! With limited trialling we have passes in obedience and agility and already achieved our JD (novice jumping) title. As a baby puppy Piper was lightly shown in conformation winning a Baby in Group award.
Piper shows a lot of potential in both obedience and agility, when she matures and settles a little more I expect we will see even better work from her. Piper has the benfit of not having a novice handler on the end of her lead. I hope that this time round I am making less mistakes (or at least different ones). Piper has been trained entirely using positive reinforcement based training and loves the clicker. I believe that part of her joy in "working" can be attributed to this type of training.
Piper was one of the first dogs in SA to pass her HIT (Herding Instinct Test) although at this stage it is not recognised by the canine association. In spite of this it gave us a new interest and we regualrly go on a 2 hour drive to attend herding lessons. Something that we both enjoy |
