Un-Hip Album Reviews

Eminem
"The Marshll Mathers LP"

Hey, a retaliation album, great.  Seeing as how I didn't pick up his last album I can't really compare the two.  But I have to say, any doubts I initially had about Mr. Mathers are gone.  The cd isn't as good as I think it could be.  But with songs like "Marshall Mathers"  It  definatley impressed me, and I'm sure that was at the top of Eminems "To Do With This Album" list.

Perfect Circle
"Mer De Noms"

Niiiice!  Well the singer from Tool and some of his cohorts have gone and made a great band.  This cd is really good, destroying my suspicions that this would be another run-of-the-mill cheesey gloom rock fest. I'm actually surprised at how much I listen to it.  And if the bassist of Perfect Circle is reading this (how could she not?) Please, marry me.  How's that for a hard hitting and poignant serious music review?  Ugh.

Elastica
"The Menace"

Well look who decided to come back!  Jesus, after like, thirty years...Elastica's second album has finally come out....In England only.  Ugh, I had to shell out alot of dough for this cause I couldn't wait any longer.  Thankfully, I love the new album.  A little punker in feeling and execution than the last album.  It's got alot of neat synth stuff and even a cover of Trio's "Da Da Da".  There's no new "Connection" on the album, but all in all it's got all the best stuff from the first and then some.  Don't worry though, the album is coming out in the states, but I don't know when.

Mindless Self Indulgence
"Frankenstien Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy"

I'll be the first to admit that I picked this album up mainly for the incredible Jaime Hewlett cover art.  After giving it a listen at the store I thought it was pretty interesting, so I gave it a go.  Although it had to grow on me at first, I actually dig this album, and recommend it for those of you with a really good sense of humor.

Bloodhound Gang
"Hooray For Boobies"

You gotta love the Bloodhound Gang.  They are probably the funniest band out there.  I was a pretty big fan of thier last cd "One Fierce Beer Coaster", so I decided to give this one a whirl.  Rap, Rock, and well....80's nostalgia come together real well on this album.  It's raunchier, and a little more polished musically.  All in all a really tight album by these upstanding
citizens.

Movie Reviews

Mission Impossible 2: A Deadly Virus!.....Hostile Corporate Takeovers!  Yeah!  The kids love obscure white collar crime in action movies!   This sucked, well......I tell you what.....sneak in for the last 20 minutes and you'll have a lot of fun.  Just don't catch the first day and a half of this piece of crap.  Here you go Mr. Woo.....Nice stunts and gorgeous chick.......but get a story that entertaining enough so that we aren't waiting for an action sequence just so that every will shut up... and leave your god damn doves at home.

Gladiator-  By Neptune!  A decent flick!  I don't know about jipping us a bit on the amount of fight scenes by trying to distract us with a interesting story, and good characterization....but then again.....you can never get enough footage of guys getting cut in half and bludgoned.  All in all, a pretty tight package.  The story is simple, but involving.  It's probably the best big film of the summer...oh wait, I almost forgot Big Momma's House......silly me.

American Psycho-  Hey, it's got it all.  This movie was alot of fun.  Everyone secretly loves a real dickhead villain/protagonist.  I have to say it was also one of the funniest movies I've seen all year.  Well if your like me, and find ax murders to the tune of a Hewey Lewis's "Hip to Be Square", or dropping a chainsaw on top of a screaming prostitute from the top of the stairs funny.  See it, Be it...don't feel bad for lauging....some people deserved it...especially in the 80's!
