Night of the Living Dead
Dawn of the Dead and
Day of the Dead

They're us, and we're them.

Aw, Yeah!  Well, what can you say about the Romero Zombie Trilogy (Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead)!  These are three mighty fine films, and probably the best take on zombies ever.  Before Night of the Living Dead opened, Zombies were lame-ass monsters who didn't eat human flesh.  They just didn't have any style.  Romero re-invented these "Ghouls"  (as they are commonly reffered to in Night)  into some of the most relentless and scariest things ever.  Just imagine hordes of the unded.  People who lived in your town, friends, your family.  Now little more than animals who's only goal is to rip you apart and eat your flesh.

Dawn of the Dead is the strongest of the three.  Although it's not exactly action packed and lightening paced.  The characters are great, and the plot is right out of the pages of Poe's Mask of the Red Death.  Day may be considered by the many the weakest of the three (it's original story had to be changed due to low budget), but it's still packed with a sense of claustrophobia and a keen social commentary that Romero tastefully pulls off in all three movies.

The original, however, Night of the Living Dead scared the crap out of me when I was little, and still does.  Even the Tom Savini-helmed remake does a good job a getting me uneasy about going outside at night.  See it again, and you'll know why it's considered one the best horror movies (and one of my favorite movies) ever.
