Burning Daylight

Friday night, a bunch of us from the office partied at Papa's Cantina to mark Susie's imminent departure for a new job in Houston. Saturday, I dropped by Susie's to consider buying her computer. It was a pretty good deal, and I could use a second computer mightily--for one thing I could dedicate one computer at a time to the slow process of scanning, which means I could post material to the web as promised much faster--but in the end it was too hard to justify spending that much for a machine just slightly behind the top of the line (albeit twice as fast and capacious as our current one), at a time when our entire tax refund should be going to make a small dent in our credit card debt.

We spent a good part of the weekend finally clearing boxes from the path of the cable in our back room, so that a cable technician can come in this week and replace our cable outlets, hopefully curing both our spotty cable TV reception and the intermittent loss of signal to our cable modem. Then once Michelle finished repairing a table she picked up from our neighbor the salvage operator, we rearranged the living room to make space for it as a computer desk. Now we almost have enough room for the computer and its peripherals to use them in comfort.

Today I watched a 1931 Warner Brothers musical, "Bright Lights," in which Dorothy Mackaill sings "I'm Crazy for Cannibal Love." They don't make them like that any more.
