Secret
of Mana
Story
All I can say is that long ago, you were adopted by the elder. You and your two friends go where you're not allowed, and you fall into a pond from the cliff edge. Things after this point are in the Game section below.
Game
I don't like giving games as enjoyable as this one away, so I'm just going to type this: First, after falling from the cliff edge, you can find a sword which is needed to get through some plants. Mysteriously, monsters start appearing around the village. After a fight below the town, you get chucked out because you had just took out the sword that was supposed to be protecting the village. This is where the adventure begins!
Gameplay
I don't know how big the game
is because I have gotten stuck. The main idea is to get the sword powered
up from lots of items in caves, which should make it quite big. The controls
aren't to bad, but may annoy you when you go to attack someone and your
item screen pops up. I've not found many of the puzzles so I cant say much
about them. Getting into this game is quite easy, and you will probably
like it unless you die, and you havn't saved in ages. Because of it's similarity
with Zelda 3 though, I think it's worth 8/10.

Graphics
Okay. It's not top notch in comparison with today's stuff, but it was great when it was released. This is incredibly like Zelda; it's bright, detailed and colourful. It's good enough for a nice 8/10.
Sound
SFX isn't bad. Interesting music tracks are quite good too, so I'll give it 7/10.
Originality
Secret of Mana uses the fantastic
ideas previously used in the Zelda series, and some of it's own. Many other later games have copied too, including the more recent Alundra
which made good use of this idea. But it's still using Zelda, only putting
a few of it's own ideas in. I think it's only worth 4/10.
This gets 7/10!
This was last updated 24/4/1999. I'll try to update it often. Apparently, a PlayStation sequel has been released (but not PAL). Cool, huh? I'll review it if I get my hands on it.
