Warm weather provided plenty of close racing action for 38 cars on the north end of Rice Lake Saturday as the season nears its end. With some very close points battles on the line and the best track surface of the year,there was no lack of excitement.. The closest battle is in the COMP4 Lites, with Chad Thomsen comming into the day leading by 13 points over Karen Koltunski of Cumberland, but Koltunski outdrove the Cameron driver to take over the lead by 3 points and 14 points ahead of third place, which happens to be her husband, Al Koltunski. Thomsen leads the COMP4 Bandits by 29 points over Jeremy Winningham, another Cameron driver and third place Tadd Davis of Rice Lake 1 point behind Winningham. In the 6/8 Full Size, Jim Cimfl of Clayton has the lead in both classes, with runners up Jarred Amundson of Barron 14 points behind in the Lites and Troy Holder of Cameron 34 back in the Bandits. Third place belongs to another Cameron driver, Bob Thompson in the Lites and Amunsdson in the Bandits. In the Front Wheel drive Class, Scott Brueggen of Cameron leads Rice Lakes Scott Miller by 17 in the Lites, with a pair of Eau Claire drivers, Kyle Johnson over Harold Fischer by 24 in the Bandits. Rice Lakes Josh Boch holds third in each division, 2 points behind second in the Lites and 1 point in the Bandits.This week will be Season Championships, points also counting for the year end awards, so racing could get very interesting for their last bid at season points totals. Saturday also marked the first Powder Puff of the season with Missy Cimfl edging her mother, Deb, at the line with Missy Thomsen, Pam Winningham and Kim Cimfl rounding out the top five.
