Rice Lake Ice Racing continued to show good car counts Saturday with 50 cars registered for the three regular divisions and eight Powder Puff drivers still fighting for the top spot to be named Points Champions for the 2007 season. With three weeks left for points racing, all divisions battles are still open for anyone to take. The largest lead is in the COMP4 class where Turtle Lake native Troy Gross has a 50 point lead over Canadian Cody Wolkowski. Wolkowski was the feature winner Saturday ahead of Curt Myers, with Gross taking third ahead of Troy Holder and Mike Randall to round out the top five spots.Comp 4 heat winners were Myers and Gross with one win each, and Tadd Davis with two wins. Davis looked strong in the feature as well but was eliminated late in the race because of a flat tire.The next class too take to the ice was the Front Wheel Drives, with the tightest points chase at hand between Scott Miller and Brad Doll, where only 14 points divide the pair of Rice Lake drivers. It was Eau Claires Steve Hallquist that continued to show his dominance in the feature after missing a week by taking the checkers first, but not without a battle from a very persistant Kyle Johnson who was leading when the white flag was displayed but come up short for the win. Miller took third ahead of Doll and a deserving Jesse Tripp, driving the only car with no windows in it. In the 6/8 Full size class Eau Claires Joe Rowan followed up a pair of heat wins with a feature win ahead of points leader Jarred Amundson, who also one one heat. Amundson holds a 37 point lead over Don Cook, who was gone Saturday and had fill in driver Butch Madsen at the controles. Madsen also one a heat and went on to finish fifth in the main event behind third place Rick Hallquist and fourth place Andy Cimfl, with Hallquist also taking a heat and Cimfls father, Jim, finishing off the list of heat winners. Another Hallquist, Missy, also come back from a week off in winning fasion taking the checkers in both the heat and feature in the Powder Puff class. Hallquist is third in points behind the Cameron duo of points leader Cathy Roe and runner up Barb Brueggen. Missy Cimfl, winner of the only Powder Puff race last season and in her first race of this season, took the runner up spot ahead of Roe, Brueggen and Terrie Davenport. Last weeks feature winner Sheila Cook, who was misstakenly reported as runner up, was missing from Saturdays action and dropped to sixth in points but still has a chance at the title where only 60 points seperate first thru sixth place. This Saturday will be a regular race day followed by Season Championships the following weekend, and then the season closer on March 10th with all three weeks counting towards Champion Points.
