| HOME | For the second year in a row Mother Nature is thought to be the blame for lower than expected car counts for the "Ice Jam Challenge Under The Lights", but this time it wasn't for rain but the sub zero temps instead. Fifty four cars were registered to take on the ice oval Saturday afternoon with racing action continuing into the night under the portable light plants. Track crews worked the racing surface with special cutting blades prior too the days events, giving the growing spectator crowd plenty of close racing action only too be topped off with a large fireworks display featured at intermission. With the cold temps and low car counts, and even colder temps forecasted for Sunday, the drivers agreed too run the full show on Saturday thus cancelling Sundays events. The FWD Class were first to take to the ice and with Brad Doll being the only driver to pair his heat wins he looked to be the favorite in the feature, but in a very heated battle between the top three Rice Lakes driver Steve Miller had different ideas and took home the Feature checkers, with Jim Randall, filling in for the Florida bound Tyler Viltz, taking the runner up spot ahead of Doll. Next on the track was the 6/8 Full Size division, and this time Randall was able to pull of the win leading the entire race with the exception of the first lap, with Jarrod Amundson finishing runner up in front of a hard charging third place Don Cook. After a pair of heat wins In the Comp4 Class , Curt Myers kept hanging in the feature mix waiting for a mistake by the leader in order to take a sweep in his newly acquired car, but Turtle Lakes Troy Gross had the field covered by lapping all but four cars to take home the hardware, with Canadian driver Cody Wolkowski coming in third. This Saturday will be a regular race day, with free spectator admission from the plowed parking area around the track. For more information please visit www.geocities.com/ricelakeiceracing .
