JANUARY 27th, 2007 RESULTS
Another week of bitter cold wind chills didn't deter a near record 50 ice racers in the regular racing divisions to turn laps during the second weekend of the 2007 season. A record size crowd gathered to watch the 6/8 Full Size division take to the fast track first, with Jim Cimfl and Joe Rowan each pairing up with heat wins while Rick Hallquist debut in the full size class netted him a heat win as well along with Jarred Amundson, who then went on to finished runner up in a very heated battle to Rice Lakes Jim Randall in the feature race. Tyler Viltz lead wire to wire in the FWD feature race ahead of a very persistent Kyle Johnson and Steve Hallquist, but despite there effects Viltz was able to pull off the feature win along with a heat win. Johnson, Hallquist and Woodbury, Minnesota's Craig Alberg each had one heat win, along with a pair from Brad Doll. In the COMP4 Division last weeks feature winner Tadd Davis looked strong with his pair of heats wins but finished third behind last weeks runner up and this weeks winner Troy Gross, with Karen Koltunski coming home in the runner up spot in her first feature of the season. Gross and Koltunski split the other two heats in the COMP4 class to round out the regular racing classes. For the second week in a row the Powder Puff division saw a clean sweep, but this time it was Cameron's Cathy Roe taking the honers ahead of last weeks winner Missy Hallquist. Also, for the second week in a row, there was 9 women to take the green in the newly formed class, where lady drivers take to the helm of the men's cars to turn their laps. Regular racing action will be put on hold for this weekend so that the "Ice Jam Challenge Under The Lights" special can be run, with close to 100 cars expected from Wisconsin, Minnesota and Canada to run for their share of the $3,000 plus total payout. This will be a two day show with racing to start at 3pm on Saturday and a large fireworks display that night. Then on Sunday racing will resume at 11am with the "B" features being the first order of the day followed by the main events. There will be concessions and restrooms available and as always, spectator admission is free. Rice Lake Ice Racing is held on Rice Lakes north end by the Bungalow Bar and there is a plowed spectator viewing area around the track.  Visit the web site at www.geocities.com/ricelakeiceracing for more information.
