| Saturdays below zero temps did not stop 32 racers from turning laps during the second week of competition on the north end of Rice Lake. "Best Appearing Car Awards" presented by Buzz Signs & Graphics and Rod's Painting & Sandblasting was the first order of business for the day with the honors going to Jim Cimfl in the 6/8 Full Size, Scott Miller in the FWD and Karen Koltunski in the COMP4 class.
Steve Hallquist posted two heat wins and and looked strong at the start of the FWD feature by leading laps two through four, but last weeks feature winner Scott Miller took over the point on lap five of the fifteen lap feature and lead the rest of the way, lapping all but the top four cars. Jesse Tripp settled in behind Miller early in the race and despite numerous attempt was never able too get around the Rice Lake driver, thus settling for the runner up spot ahead of Hallquest. Pete Leuschner posted a fourth place finish with Mike Schnider one lap down in fifth. In the 6/8 Full Size class another Hallquist, Rick, also won both heats but unlike Steve in the FWD's was never able too make it to the front of the main event. Troy Holder jumped out too an early led in the feature and lead all fifteen lap but not without heavy pressure from Barron's Don Cook. On lap twelve Jeff Brueggen got around Cook and continued to put pressure on Holder and on the last lap Brueggen got to the inside of Holder getting him sideways, but backed out of the throttle to let Holder get straightened out with the pair crossing the checkers in that order ahead of a hard charging Steve Hallquist. The father/son team of Jim and Andy Cimfl rounded out the top five finishers. The husband and wife team of Al and Karen Koltunski showed contenders in the COMP4 class that they come too conduct business as the pair split the heats with one win each, but it was Karen that had more for the field by leading every lap in the feature in a very commanding win, lapping all but three cars. The real battle was in the second through fourth spots where Ken Hansen held the runner up spot the entire race ahead of Curt Myers and Jamey Fisher only too have bad luck strike him on the last lap putting him out of contention with a flat rear tire. Myers inherited the runner up spot and was able to hold of Fisher by a fender at the stripe, with Hanson limping his truck home fourth ahead of fifth place Tadd Davis. The "Cold Filtered Shootout" presented by AAM Customs & CARQUEST will be this coming Saturday. The 3rd Annual "Ice Jam Challenge" will be held on February 16th, with this years race's held during daylight hours and entertainment afterwords, a new twist to the first two years events where racing was held at night.
