| Joseph Walters & Martha McCabe were married on 17th August 1844 in Finsbury Chapel, South Place, Brisbury, London, England. Joseph Walters was a surgical instrument maker in Moorgate Street, London specialising in Railway Conveniences. He went bankrupt in 1848, I beleive this may have been the catalyst for his decision to come to Australia and start again. His brother Frederick took over the business making a name for himself. They had two children:- Jessie Walters b 25th January 1846 Joseph Henry Walters b 1848 d 1883 Stawell Cemetery, buried with sister Jessie Joseph and Martha then left England for Australia they arrived in Port Phillip on the "William Hyde" in 1849. Then settled in Melbourne for a number of years having three more children:- William John Weldon Walters b 1849 Melbourne married Charlotte Annie Simpson Frederick Walters b 9th September 1851, Mulgrave married Catherine Scott Gilbert Walters b 26th March 1854, Melbourne m Catherine Scott 1877 Mulgrave, Vic d 7th April 1908 North Coolgardie buried Davyhurst Cemetery West Aust tragically killed in mudslide whilst asleep in his tent They then moved to Pleasant Creek (Stawell, Victoria) they had:- Patty Walters b 17th March1856 Back Creek d 19th January 1932 Harvey, West Australia Frances Mary Walters b 20th August 1858 Pleasant Creek married William Alexander Sim d 4th December 1933 Dunedin, NZ Eleanor Walters b 19th November 1861 Pleasant Creek married Andrew Rentoul Reid d 1909 Brighton, Victoria Joseph established himself in Stawell setting up a General Furnishing Mart, Bedding and Cabinet Factory also selling Crockery, Glass Fancy Goods, Tin and Iron Ware. |

| William married Charlotte Simpson in 1884 Geelong, Victoria they had three children:- Lillian Frances Walters b 1885 Melbourne, Vic William Joseph Walters b 1887 Melbourne, Vic Patrica Constance Walters b 1888 Melbourne, Vic In they 1890's William and Charlotte moved their family to Western Australia and later purchased a farm in Popanyining. William died suddenly on the 16th May 1916. Charlotte died 21.2.1920 they are both buried in the Popanyining Cemetery. |
| Frances Mary Walters |
| Frances Mary married William Alexander Sim (a New Zealander) on the 6th January 1886 in Stawell, Victoria. William took his bride back to New Zealand their they had 6 children (five boys & one girl) William was a barrister in New Zealand and later a judge he was appointed to the Supreme Court in 1911, In 1927 he chaired a Royal Commission (Sim Commission) into the Confiscation of Maori lands. He was knighted in 1924 becoming Sir William Sim and his wife Lady Frances Sim. (Yes, I am bragging) Sir William died 29.8.1928 Wellington, New Zealand. Frances was also a writer of some note publishing a number of books on Robert Browning. The first published in 1923. |
