Life in the NICU
I was very tiny, and very sick when I was born.  The first time my Mommy got to see me, she was only allowed to touch my leg for a second, because it was too stressful for me.  I was kept on a warming table, under a plastic tent, because I was too sick to be in an isolette at first.  I was on a ventilator, because I wasn't ready to breathe on my own yet.  When I was 3 days old, my lung collapsed, and the doctor had to put a chest tube in.  When I was 4 days old, I lost 4 ounces, and was down to 1 pound, 5 ounces.
Every day my Mommy and Daddy would come and stay with me.  Sometimes my brother Danny would come and see me too!  Mommy's favorite thing to do with me was to put my Aquaphor on for me, to keep me from dehydrating.  She would always get carried away, and put so much on me that none of the tape would stick to me, so the nurses would have to wipe it off after Mommy was done.
Daddy and Mommy hated leaving me in the hospital at night when it was time for them to go home, but they knew that the doctors and nurses would take very good care of me while they were away.
When I was 9 days old, I had a very big day!   My brother Danny came to meet me for the first time, and he read me his favorite story from when he was a baby.  It was also the first time my Mommy got to hold me.  We both loved it, and none of my alarms went off during the whole time she held me!
Getting off the vent!
On February 27, when I was three weeks old, I finally got off the ventilator!  This was one of the most stressful and exciting days for Mommy and Daddy while I was in the NICU, but I handled it beautifully!  I was switched to nasal CPAP, which looked kind of funny, and wasn't very comfortable, but at least Mommy and Daddy could finally hear me cry.  After nine days on CPAP, I was switched to nasal canula, which we all  liked much better, and I stayed on that  for about 6 more weeks
One of our favorite things to do in the NICU was kangaroo care.  Mommy and Daddy always argued over who would get to go first, and who would get to hold me the longest.  Mommy always won.  Daddy and I took some great naps together when it was his turn.
Growing Bigger!
This was the first time Mommy got to see me with no oxygen at all.  My nurse took my CPAP off for a minute to change my tube, and she left it off long enough for  Mommy to take pictures.
