Superhero and Supervillain Deaths
I'm a fan of superheroes. I'll watch them on television or read about them in comics. I enjoy seeing them fight some villain or other and emerge victorious. But occasionally, they do lose and, horror of horrors, they die. But the thing that annoys me is they hardly ever stay dead, and it just gets ridiculous after a while. Anyway, here's a little guide to those superheroes who died and the crazy way's the writers came up with to bring them back... Oh, yeah. A small note. Where I know it, I've included where you can find both the death, and the subsequent resurrection. 'Cos I'm nice like that. If there isn't one, I don't know it yet. But I will.
Captain America
How did he die?: Cap was investigating a terrorist group who were all dressed like his arch nemesis, the Red Skull. They overpowered him and him chained him up near a large bomb. Cap broke free, but not in time to stop the bomb. He apparently died in the explosion. They had a funeral and everything. (See "Captain America", volume 3, #50, published by Marvel comics) How he came back: Erm, Marvel goofed. Cap came back in a new series, but they've yet to explain why he's not dead. Hmmm. As soon as I know, I'll put it here, but until then we have absolutely no clue.
Archangel
How did he die?: As a memeber of X-Factor, Angel was involved in trying to save the Morlocks from a group of mutants who were wiping them out called the Marauders. However, he was captured and tortured by the Marauders, and was only saved by the timely intervention of the mighty Thor. But his original, feathery wings, had to be amputated. Angel became severly depressed and committed suicide by taking off in his private jet and blowing it up. How he came back: Phew, lucky Angel. At the last moment he was teleported away by the villain Apocalypse, who then transformed him into the angel of death, Archangel.
Angel
How did he die?: Angel. the vampire with a soul, fought alongside his lover, Buffy Summers, until he became happy. Ya see, the curse that returned his soul states that if he should feel a moment of true happiness, his soul would be taken from him. And nothing made him happier than a night of passion with Buffy. Angel became Angelus, one of the most sadistic vampire's ever. He planned to open a portal to hell which would then suck the whole world in, and the only way to stop him, was to kill him. Willow re-cursed him and returned his soul again, but it was too late, and Buffy was forced to kill him. (See "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" season
2, episode 22, "Becoming part 2") How he came back: Simple. The powers that be decided to return him from Hell so that he could continue to fight the good fight. Which was rather nice of them. (See "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" season 3, episode 3, "Faith, Hope and Trick")
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
How did she die?: Which time? The first time was at the hands of the Master, who fed off her then dumped her in a pool of water, leaving her to drown. (See "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" season 1, episode 12, "Prophecy Girl"). The second time was when the mad god Glory opened a portal to her own dimension, allowing it to spill over into ours. Buffy saw the only way of closing the portal was for her to jump in, killing the slayer in the process. (See "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" season 5, episode 22, "The Gift") How she came back: The first time, Xander gave her CPR. (See "Buffy the
Vampire Slayer" season 1, episode 12, "Prophecy Girl") The second time, Willow cast a really dangerous spell to bring the slayer clawing out of her grave. Oh, yeah, and expelling her from Heaven too. Which annoyed her, just ever so slightly. (See "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" seaon 6, episode 1, "Bargaining part 1")
