A short
tour of Iona. This tiny island , just 5 miles by 3 lies off the west coast of
Scotland.
This view is from
Iona looking to Mull.
Iona Abbey -
Columba came to Iona in 563 and established a religious community. There will have been a
church in this vicinity from his time...however the building today has been extensively
restored during the last hundred years.
A close up
of the cross that can be seen next to the abbey in the previous photo.
The grassy mound in the background is reputed to
be where Columba had his cell.

This bay
is called Columba's Bay....and if you are lucky you can find stones called Columba's
Tears.

A view towards the top
of the island.

Cottage on
Iona , used by Francis Cadell..one of the Scottish Colourists.
I want to live here !!!

If you
come off the ferry, and instead of following the road to the abbey , go in the other
direction , past the restaurant ( lovely salmon ! ...friendly staff !) you cross the golf
course where cows graze and end up here..at the Bay at the Back of the Ocean. The
Atlantic Ocean , that is !
View of
Iona from the jetty where the ferry arrives. In the distance you can see the abbey.
