Roughly a route following the west coast northwards, and then along the north coast to John O'Groats.

This was the capital of the Kingdom of Dalriada, probably established around AD500.

Tradition has it that this is where the kings of Dalriada were crowned - at the summit is a rock with an inscription in ogam writing, a carving of a boar and a footprint hollowed out of the rock.

This town was established in 1788 to� take advantage of the plentiful herring stocks in Loch Broom.

The ferry to Stornoway, on the Isle of Lewis , leaves from here.
