| Thursday, 7/7/2005 It's been awhile and feels like a lot longer. Usually I write about what's already happened and don't really say much about my plans because plans change... but I think I'll make an exception this time. This morning was a new beginning and it feels pretty good. I have to work a lot today because one of the dispatchers at Apa quit and I'm picking up some extra evening hours today to help them out. It'll be good vacation money. I'll be getting home around midnight tonight and then going to work at SUNY tomorrow morning. Hopefully we'll all be sitting down and hashing out the new TV station by-laws, something that desperately needs to be done. I was going to have a yard sale this weekend but with moving old furniture out and putting new in and the errands that it took to make that happen, I just haven't had time to get it all together. Plus, Bill told me today that it's supposed to rain this weekend. Hopefully I'll have it next weekend, but even that might not happen because James is visiting on Monday and Tuesday, and then Wednesday and Thursday I'm putting in more hours at Apa, and then I'm back to Friday and not being ready for the weekend yard sale. Though I'm not complaining, I would much rather do stuff with James any day. He said he's going to cook this amazing dish for me on Tuesday, I can't wait... and hopefully we'll be able to go hiking up to Mohonk on Monday. I've heard it's absolutely beautiful up there, especially this time of year. But I think we're going to bypass the lemon squeeze and take the other hiking route. I can get mildly claustrophobic sometimes, so I'd prefer not to freak out. I'm missing my belly dance classes, scheduling conflicts have been arising to such that I haven't been able to attend. I'm looking forward to getting back into it. Hopefully by Monday the 18th I'll be able to start again and luckily the class system is set up so that if I miss a class, I don't have to pay for it. It's definitely good like that. The instructors are really fabulous, and super sweet too. They make a point to say hi to eveyrone individually at some point and letting the students know that they're glad to have us there. I found out after the first class I went to that the instructor who had taught the first belly dance class I ever went to (her name is Piper) is apparently very well known and the best of the best in the US. So even though I didn't really take full advantage of studying with her, at least I learned my basics from her and apparently it's very solid. I'm still struggling a little bit with undulations, but they're slowly getting better and I can see so much progress from where I was 6 mo. - 1 year ago. Well, there's a lot more I could write, but this is all I feel like writing now. More later, when I get around to it. I'll close with this... Being an Adult... You learn that love does not mean leaning, that kisses are not contracts, and presents are not promises. You begin to accept your defeats with your head up, with your eyes ahead, and with the grace of an adult, not the grief of a child. You learn to build all your roads on today because tomorrow's ground is too uncertain, for plans and futures have a way of falling down in flight. After a while, you learn that even the sunshine burns if you get too much. You plant your own garden and decorate your own soul instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers. You learn that you really can endure, you really are strong, and you really do have worth. You learn... Monday, 7/25/2005 Ok, so much has happened... hopefully I won't run out of space on this page, but if so, oh well. No yard sale as of yet, but I'm still working on it... hopefully it'll get there eventually, though probably not until after I come back from vacation. James came to visit and we had a great time. Figures though, the wether was being so nice until the day he drove up, and then it got super himid and sweltering hot. I don't have AC so it made it kind of miserable. Didn't go hiking, couldn't get the day passes in time, so maybe another time I've been working so much at Apa the last 3 weeks,, and just today I finished a 5-day run of working overnight shifts. Yeah, do the math, 80 hours of working over the span of 7 days. I'm crazy... but the pay checks are fabulous. And who knew I could survive on so little sleep? I've started going regularly to the local Lutheran church, it's been really nice. The people there are great, and very friendly. Most of the members are in their 30's and up, but I have befriended a guy who is the same age as me. We've been hanging out and he's really nice... always good to meet new people. Last Tuesday night, Pastor Bill and I hung out and had drinks at the Otter. He's really awesome because he's the first cleric I've ever met who doesn't act like he's a pastor. I guess what I'm saying is, no matter how hard someone tries, there still tends to be a sort of aura about a pastor (whether self-imposed or externally so) that gives off a vibe of subtle religious pretentiousness. But not with him, he's completely real, shows the faults and all, and we had a really great time talking and drinking beer. Thursday I went to the Poughkeepsie train station and picked up Mike, the former NYPIRG project coordinator, and we hung out for a few hours in the afternoon. In our travels we stopped off at this historical house turned art gallery called Wilderstain and checked it out. It wasn't too bad, but the Dea is still my favorite. That day I also chipped a tooth towards the back of my mouth, so now I'm on a mad hunt for a dentist. I really hope it won't be too expensive or painful to have the tooth fixed. I'm hoping that it can be sealed with some kind of cavity mixture and it's good to go. Also on Thursday evening, Sue (director of Student Activities) had a bbq at her house, which was a total blast. There was a neighbor's cat that kept trying to visit with us, so I made a little hat out of a napkin and Bill and I were trying to put it on the cats head... it didn't work very well. Then I tried to get the cat to choose between Molson Canadian and Corona... the cat didn't like either. We were going to rearrange the lawn furniture, but decided that we wanted to be invited back to Sue's place so we shouldn't sabotage her relationship with he neighbors. This was also one of the last times that all of us would be getting together before Brian leaves. Friday is his last day... we're all sad. He might be going out to San Jose, California... if the job comes through. He already said anyone can come visit him... I'm so there. Belly dance has been falling by the wayside these last few weeks... and with working at Apa on Wed. and Thursday evenings, I haven't been able to take any make-up classes for the Mondays that I'm missing. Ick... I really need to get back into it (especially since the next 12 weeks are already paid for) and the exercise feels great. |
