cont. from page 14 From February 18th - 27th, 28th short term missionaries brother Mathias to assist him for 7 days. The experience of these missionaries have been eliciting interest within the College and agency. The 28 missionary team lead by Brother Kelvin Nwafor included the President of Rescuers Mission Agency, Rev. C. C. Anyanwu, 3 medical doctors who are N.A.U. T. H. members of Nigerian Conference of Christian Medical and Dental students . 2 nurses were trained as missionaries in International college of Missions and Theology. They are working with it's sister organization "Rescuers Mission Agency". The rest are the mission students of International College of Missions Theology. When the team arrived at Komni village on February 19th, they were met by a jubilant villagers who had been pre-informed by Brother Mathias about the teams coming. A man vacated his 3 rooms for the team. That night, Jesus film was shown and Brother Kelvin who is the Vice President of Rescuers Mission Agency preached. Their response to the gospel was fantastic. The next day, they were invited to the market square for medical treatment. For over 8 hours the 3 doctors and 2 nurses with 4 interpreters, struggled to give the whole village medical attention. In the crusade that followed that night, Rev. C. C. Anyanwu (the President of Recuers Mission Agency) preached. This was repeated for 3 days; from Monday through Wednesday. On Thursday, February 22nd, 2001. The team took off to the mountain dwellers. The first trip from Komni to Onli took the team 5 hours. It was frightening but beautiful sight to look at massive rocks and architectural beauty of nature displayed. When the team arrived Onli Mountain, they were so worn out that nothing could start immediately. After about 3 hours rest, medical consultant started. It lasted until 5 p.m. when clothes was distributed before Jesus film was shown. After the film, Brother Samuel Nicholas Chibuokem (the Secretary of Rescuer's Mission Agency) preached. The spokesman of the village thanked the team and the Maigwa presented a fowl. The next day (the 23rd), the team moved into what was the most difficult highest hill in the area. Traversing 4 villages, the team arrived the village to the extreme called Banasara, passing Parigi, Tunshini, and Suli. The 3 villages passed on the road were invited to the crusade at Banasara. The team was surprised to see that even before they arrived Banasara, the 3 villages had congregated, waiting for the team to attend to them. That night no medical consultation, but a crusade and Jesus film was shown. The next day, (the 24th) doctors were so stretched that they almost lost control. This was because there were 4 villages combined. In the night Jesus film was shown while the President preached. The next day (the 25th) the team passed through Gbagi after a walk of about 5 hours. The team arrived Komni, the starting point. The longest walk was that of the 23rd from Onli to Banasara. The first set arrived after 5 hours and the last set arrived 10 hours later. It is better imagined than experienced. Brother Kelvin (the team leader) announced that Komni, day, that the team would depart from Komni to Yola from where they hoped to move down to Nnewi. In all, over 3000 people received medical attention. About the same number received clothing materials. The Jesus films were shown 5 times and preaching and ministration in prayers went on all the nights. When the team left Komni for Nnewi, one deep impression was made in them. How come people are living on mountain tops? How come the government doesn't seem to be interested? |
