Saint Mark's Syrian Orthodox Church


On the way to the Armenian Monastery towards the Jewish Quarter is located the Syrian Orthodox Church of Saint Mark, which is considered by the Syrians as the original House of the Virgin Mary and therefore the true "Upper Room".

Archbishop Sewerios, a young and dynamic hierarch and preacher, conducted the service in Aramaic [the language of our Lord] in the presence of most of the Church representatives while alternately Arabic, Syrian and Coptic choirs sang.

It should be noted that the Maronites also use Aramaic and their Archbishop, Mor Paul Sayyah, was singing with the choirs.

For the first time a prayer was read in Hebrew by a protestant representative
