WHO IS RUM-ORTH-IVRI.NET?
This website "www.rum-orth-ivri.net" is managed by Rev. Father Protopresbyter Alexander Winogradsky, Head of the Orthodox Communities within the Israeli Society at the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem.
Father Alexander is assisted by a staff of different people based in and outside Israel who contribute to this site varied and interesting information, advice, facts and thoughts regarding Scriptures, current events and other timely subjects.
He is assisted in implementing his various projects in Israel by a group of Eastern Orthodox believers who became Readers and are willing to pray in Hebrew as well as Slavonic, Russian, Ukrainian and various living tongues in use in the Middle-East.
Work on this website was launched only during the week of the Orthodox Liturgical New Year, which corresponded in 2002/5763 to the Day of Atonement for the Jews.
Father Alexander is a Professor of Compared Liturgies and teaches the specific link that exists between Judaism and Christianity.
WHO IS THE MEMRA ASSOCIATION?
In 1987 together with a group of his students, Father Alexander set up an Association in Europe, actually based in France, in order to collect money and develop his spiritual activities. Over the past 25 years, the Memra Association [a reference to Abraham's hospitality at the MaMRe Oaks] developed spiritual sessions, lectures, journeys to Israel/ Jordan/ Palestine and assistance to the sick and prisoners.
The Association also granted special premiums to sponsor specific projects or activities [neurologists taking care of children, immigrants, social insertion of Falashas and Eastern-Europeans in Israel, social care of the sick and prostitutes].
The aim of the Memra Association is to always connect the teachings and studies of the Scriptures with concrete, pragmatic actions.
In June 2002, the statutes of the Memra-Multisens Association were updated with an aim to allow financial support for the actions developed in the State of Israel by Father Alexander within the framework of his mission confirmed by His Beatitude Irenaios I, Patriarch of Jerusalem.
The projects are carried out in full respect with the regulations in force in the State of Israel. "Amutat Memra BeYisrael" [Memra Association in Israel] has been launched in November 2003/Cheshvan 5763.
One of Memra's projects consists in editing this website in different languages: Hebrew, Russian, Ukrainian, Romanian and other common tongues.
