Saint Saviour's Latin Parish Church

This Latin Church is located inside the Franciscan convent of Saint Saviour.  The big church is situated on the first floor, and most Franciscans were present at the celebration.  Msgr. Kamal Batish, patriarchal Vicar, represented the Latin Patriarch, Michel Sabbah.

Most of the Churches attended this Evening prayer, essentially conducted in Arabic.  This year some Catholic laymen read different prayers in five languages:  Arabic, Tagalog [Phillipine language, beautifully chanted by a Philippine woman], Italian, Polish and Spanish.

Two Romanian Orthodox nuns who accompanied Archimandrite Jeronim, Head of the Orthodox Romanian Mission, sang a prayer in Romanian.  It is to be noted that the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem has suspended their canonical contacts with the Patriarchate of Bucharest.  There is a significant amount of Christian Orthodox  Romanian believers in the State of Israel at present, simple workers both legal and illegal, working under hard conditions.

Finally, for the first time in many years, a member of the Catholic Hebrew-speaking Community [Kehilah] read a prayer based on some verses from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah and the Jewish prayer book.
