ANGLICAN CATHEDRAL OF SAINT GEORGE

This venerable church, located on Nablus Road not very far from the American Consulate, is famous.

The Anglican - Episcopalian Arab Bishop of Jerusalem, H.E. Riah Abu El Assal, led a prayer in various tongues in the presence of the Latin  monks of the Dormition Hagia Sion [Holy Sion] Monastery and some Franciscans.  A laywoman chanted beautifully in Latin.  The Ethiopian monks joined the representatives of the Churches to bless the assembly.

The Greek Orthodox had a long celebration in the morning at the Katholikon [central nave of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre] with the blessing of the waters by His Beatitude Ireneos I in the presence of the local clergy and numerous faithful.

At the same time, the Syrian Orthodox were at the Jordan River after which they met at the Syrian Deyro [monastery] in Jerico.

The Armenians were commemorating in Bethlehem Christmas and the Theophany of the Lord, their normal day being on January 16th in Armenia and the Diaspora.
