Union Meeting Update
June 20, 2007
These amounts were based off of one member’s check that is married with no children. The insurance and other amounts will vary. This means before you make any money you are giving back $348.72 out of every check.
Let us show you who really makes more money, us or other locals. For example:
Approximately:
Local 786 drivers make $28.78 an hour. They pay $203.00 every 3 months union dues and do not pay Health and Welfare or pension. It does not come out of their pockets. So in 3 months they make around $13,800.00, without overtime. When you subtract their union dues they make $13,697.00.
Local 726 drivers make $29.15 an hour and pay around $350.00 per check. So if you do the math we make in 3 months around $13,990.00 without overtime (but who even gets that anymore). When you subtract our total payouts (which is $2100.00 for 3 months) our total is $11,890.00. So every 3 months we make around $1700.00 less then Local 786 drivers. But remember what the present Executive Board told you, you are the highest paid truck drivers. Maybe they should go back to school for some simple math lessons so they can tell us the truth about who really makes more money.
One more example: the Lowboy Drivers for the City do not even get paid like Local 731 drivers do. They only get paid for 5 axles instead of 6 axles, which their trucks have. One other thing that bothers us is that our raises are based of off Local 731. But our money is not paid out in the same way as theirs. For instance, they are getting 50 cents towards their pensions and 50 cents towards their Health and Welfare, but all of our money is going to Health and Welfare. We also will probably get an increase on our checks like last contract for Health and Welfare. We just do not understand why if we are giving back about $80.00 from our raises, already towards Health and Welfare, they can allow an increase on our checks? The lies and deception have to stop and telling us the truth has to start. All of us know what kind of job you are really doing for the membership, so why don’t you stop asking the same 50 or so people you have brain washed into believing that your doing a good job to just be quite. Just have them stay home or call you on the phone. Do not waste the membership’s time with this nonsense. Use this time in the meetings for our member’s problems. Have those people meet you afterwards at Morretti’s since you need this reassurance! What is really sad is the City of Chicago drivers are probably the highest paid in our Local. Makes you feel sorry for the rest of the membership. How bad are their contracts looking? We wonder what kind of raises the present Executive Board gave themselves this year.
