When we were entering the hall we thought that we were at McCormick Place.  The Present Executive Board had a bunch of Lawyers that were lined up in the hall.  We have told the Present Executive Board we don’t need Lawyers, we are here for a Union Meeting, DUH!  Once again if we wanted to talk to a lawyer we would go to their office or call them. 

Let the meeting begin.  But wait it was Lawyer time again.  The Present Executive Board gave the Lawyers the floor first.  Why don’t they take care of our business first and tell the Lawyers to wait until the close of the meeting.  Maybe they are afraid no one would stay!  One of the Present Executive Board members stated that the By-Law changes were voted Hands Down!  Maybe he was not in the same room as the rest of us when the membership voted yes to them.  Believe it or not we do want to know if our Votes Count!  We do want someone watching the Present Executive Board when they go and sell the City of Chicago workers out again.  We did not forget how they gave up our overtime on holidays for straight time.  Great deal guys!!!! 

Onto other things.  They read the bills and the BA’s told us about all the grievances they’ve won, same old BS.  Then came new business.  Brother Tenuto asked if the Present Executive Board would be kind enough to help him and Brother Vercillo with a foundation they started up for Brother Derrick Hammond by passing out flyers at all the yards, they agreed.  Derrick Hammond is a 9 year City of Chicago Truck Driver.  For the last 2 years he has been fighting Kidney Failure and waiting for a transplant.  He is on Dialysis 3 days a week and unable to work.  He needs us to help him and his family make it through these trying times.   So please help him by sending what ever you and your family can afford.  This could happen to you or a family member.  We need to band together and help our fellow member in need!

After the Present Executive Board agreed, Brother Tenuto then asked if he could make a motion.  He motioned that our Local help Brother Hammond by giving him $1500.00 to help pay his insurance premium for a few months, seeing that it costs approximately $320.00 a month.  Brother Vercillo seconded the motion and it was a unanimous YES!  So they told Brother Hammond he would be receiving a check soon.  This is what we as a slate have been saying for the last year, we have to help and take care of each other like we are blood Brothers and Sisters.  We proved at this union meeting that if we stick together we can do anything.

There were some new people at the meeting asking questions about their contract but they were told that they would talk to them after the meeting.  Wonder what the big secrets are or maybe they’re going to get a great contract like the City of Chicago, Tollway, CTA, Zoo and the list goes on.  One more union meeting left until the Present Executive Board takes the summer off.  But wait a minute they have been out at a lot of Yards and Barns.  Are they scared that the FIGHTING FOR THE FUTURE SLATE is the real deal?  Well you are probably going to be seeing them soon.  Too bad they have not been to your yards, barns or offices in 10 years.  They have never had to worry about winning before, now they do.  We will not let them steal it either.
