Roaring Rocket
Behind the Scene You have produced a chemical reaction! The molecules have mixed together and interacted. The slime is an example of a polymer, a long chainlike molecule.
Make your own roaring rocket that can be launched up to 20 feet in the air.
Styrofoam plate Toilet paper tube Markers Tube White film canister Vinegar & baking soda or Alka-Seltzer tablets The pressure that builds inside the film canister can cause the lid to pop off with considerable force, so be sure to perform this trick under adult supervision and follow the directions precisely. Step 1: Use the markers to make a design on the toilet paper tube which will be the rocket launcer. Step 2: Tape the rocket launcher to the center of the plate. Step 3: Put the rocket fuel in the film canister. See note below. Step 4: Quickly put the lid on the canister and drop it into the launcher lid side down. Step 5: STAND BACK! Step 6: Rocket will launch within 5-30 seconds. To prevent injury be sure to wait at least a minute before checking on the rocket if it does not launch. Option 1 - Vinegar & baking soda: Put 1 tablespoon of vinegar in the film canister. Hold it near the launcher and add 1/2 teaspoon baking soda. Quickly snap the lid on and drop the canister into the launcher lid side down. Option 2 - Alka-Seltzer: Fill the canister halfway with warm water. Break an Alka-Seltzer tablet in half. Drop half of the tablet into the canister and quickly snap on the lid. Drop the canister into the launcher lid side down.
