Background: It is believed that the island of Monota was first settled 1500 years ago by the ancestors of the current Monotese people.  At first divided into various tribes and groups, the entire island was united into one nation about 200 years ago.  However, the subsequent monarchy was overthrown and replaced with a democratic, federal republic on 29 November 2107.

Long form: The Federal Republic of Monota

Flag:
Monota's current flag was adopted on 29 November 2107, the date that the republic was established.  The design consists of two colored bars, blue on top, and green on bottom.  To the left is a black triangular field with a yellow circle inside.  Blue stands for the sea, and green stands for the land.  Black stands for the people of Monota, and the yellow circle stands for the sun.

National Holidays:  29 November (Monota Day), August 7 (Revolution Day), August 12 (Election Day), January 1 (Beginning of the Year Day)

Religion: Someli.  Almost all the people of Monota practice Someli (Monotese for the way of life) to some degree.  However, only about 15% of the people are seriously religious and do the requirements of Someli, such as pray at the local temple once a day and make a pilgrimmage every 5 years to Omukili, the holy center of Someli.

Government:  The federal government is divided into three parts: legislative, executive, and judicial.  The legislative section is bicameral and consists of the National Senate and the House of Ordermen.  These assemblies draft the laws for the country.  Members of the Senate include 15 senators from each state as well as 4 senators from the Federal District, for a total of 64. The number of ordermen in the House of Ordermen is based on each state's population.  100 are selected from South, 80 from Central, 70 from Northwest, and 40 from East, as well as 4 ordermen from the Federal District for a total of 294.  Senators and Ordermen are elected directly by the people.  Senators serve 5-year terms, and Ordermen serve 2-year terms.  The executive section consists of the President and his cabinet.  The judicial section consists of the National Court, and all the head judges within.

Head of State: President Kofu Enudike (2107 - ).  The President is elected directly by the people and serves a 5-year term.

Military:  Monota has an army, navy and air force (respectively called the Land Forces, Sea Forces and Air Forces).  Males in Monota are required to serve 1 year in one of the forces at the age of 22.

Economy:  Monota's economy is rapidly emerging from the darkness of isolation.  Businesses are quickly privatizing, and exports (as well as imports) are rising.  Monota is a leading producer of apples, oranges, peanuts, and coffee, as well as some of the best bicycles in Aurora.  In addition, the tourist industry is emerging.  Already, citizens from all around Aurora are flocking to Monota's two famous beach sites, Tamare Biti and Meito Biti.  Perhaps you would like to visit our country? ;)

 Monota is an Auroran nation.
